Corruption whistle blowers claim attacks not probed by police

Police in Vietnam are investigating complaints that two officials who blew the whistle on corruption in a road project were grievously assaulted, a source said. The two men, officials in the transport ministry’s corruption-ridden PMU18 project and whose identities have been kept secret, reported to the police that they had been attacked by people with swords on their way back from work. One of them, an official in the project’s planning department, was attacked in 1999 by two men riding a motorbike. The culprits attacked the victim’s head with swords but fortunately his helmet prevented serious injury. (more…)
