Cleaner Plastic Recycling

Experts from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment say that every day, each and every Vietnamese family uses and throws away at least one plastic bag. In Hanoi alone, one of the most densely-populated cities in Vietnam, more than 1,000 tonnes of rubbish are discarded daily, 13 tonnes of which are plastic, including plastic bags. Most of this is buried with all the rest of the waste gathered. It will take a few hundred years for this plastic to degrade. If the waste plastic was burned, a large amount of CO2, CH4 and dioxin gas would be released, and that is very undesirable. To reduce PE/PP resin imports, plastic bags are being recycled. However, the work as its done in Vietnam is very bad for the workers health and the environment and the recycled plastic bags that are made are of poor quality. The good thing is that recycling plastic bags keeps a large amount of unbreakable and hard-to-treat rubbish from going to the landfills. A problem now is the pollution thats being created by the plastic recycling industry.
