According to statistics from Lang Son Department of Science and Technology, star anise cultivation in the province has reached around 33,500ha with annual output of 8,000-10,000 tonnes, accounting for 70 percent of the growing areas and output of the country. Lang Son’s dry star anise and products processed from star anise are mainly exported. Vu Thi Kim Hanh, chairwoman of the Business Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Goods said at present, a large amount of Lang Son’s star anise products are exported to China and then sold back to Vietnam as finished products at much higher prices. Vu Thi Kim Hanh said “Why are the materials not sold in Vietnam to domestic enterprises so that consumers could buy finished products star anise at more reasonable prices, and we could also export these finished products at much higher prices instead of exporting the raw materials.” To expand markets to the southern region and the whole country with the support from Lang Son Department of Industry and Trade’s Trade Promotion Center, Lang Son Agro-Forestry-Fishery Processing and Export Co, Ltd will for the first time bring star anise products to the Vietnamese High Quality Trade Fair Can Tho 2014.
