Market stages strong rally as demand surges By Thuy Trieu – The Saigon Times HCMC – Investors on Wednesday rushed to buy shares again, pushing the VN-Index up 9.09 points, or 2.91%, from the session earlier to 321.86, supported in part by good performance on the U.S. stock market the previous night. The Hochiminh Stock Exchange reported the demand shot up a staggering 147% to nearly 87 million shares, while the selling fell 41% to 70.2 million shares. At the end of the day, the market’s total trading volume also surged with 54 million shares worth VND1.33 trillion changing hands, increasing 99% and 85% respectively from the session earlier. The market opened up and the index quickly hit a high of 323.88 points before sliding back to 314.1, and then staging a second run that took the index up to the eventual close. There were 137 stocks increasing and 33 others falling, including 72 stocks hitting the ceiling prices and eight others plunging to the floor prices. In terms of the VN-Index, DPM, PPC, and PVF made the biggest positive contribution while SSI, ITA, and SBT made the biggest negative contribution.
