GROCERY prices have continued to fall, but the cost of bananas has soared by 10per cent in the last month.The cost of your shopping basket reduced again in February, but some items bucked the trend – and it may not be those you expect.The cost of toilet paper fell by 5per cent, compared to January, the price of broccoli by 17per cent and the amount you shell out for fresh peppers by 7per cent.But, the price of bananas soared by 10per cent, the cost of apples rose by 5per cent and fresh salad by 4per cent.The price of bananas rose for the first time in five years in 2016 as sterling dipped in value against the dollar, and is still increasing.The reduction in broccoli prices follows competition between shops as it returns to shelves following shortages earlier in the year.Research by comparison site mysupermarket.co.uk found the price of a basket of 35 popular items came to £82.15 in February, 12p cheaper than in January and £1.49 cheaper than February 2016.Mysupermarket CEO Gilad Simhony said: “Although the decrease we see this month is very small it can make a big difference.”Also, we noticed that month on month we have seen a decrease in… Read full this story
