The remark was made by Politburo member and National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan during a reception for a 27-member delegation consisting of former and current members of Yen Bai provincial Party Standing Committees, who are visiting Hanoi on the occasion of President Ho Chi Minh’s 127th birth anniversary (May 19, 1890-2017).
At the meeting, Duong Van Thong, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Standing Committee and Head of the Yen Bai NA deputy delegation, said that during implementation of political tasks from 2016 until now, the northern mountainous province has 30/31 socio-economic indexes reaching and exceeding the set targets by the end of last year.
GRDP growth rate is at 7.3%, reaching the average level of 2016-2020 and ranked 6/12 provinces in the northern midland and mountainous area. Per capita income reached VND29 million; State budget revenue reached VND2.3 trillion, up over 31% over the previous year.
NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that although as a mountainous province facing a range of difficulties, Yen Bai’s economic structure has shifted in a positive direction with people’s lives constantly improved. Contributing to such positive achievements, in addition to the solidarity and efforts made by the entire political system and people in the province, important contributions have been made by members and former officials in the provincial Party Standing Committees.
She proposed that the Yen Bai Party Standing Committee tenure 2015-2020 continue to renovate and improve capacity in leadership, direction and administration to successfully implement the 2015-2020 local Party Congress Resolution, while closely following the resolutions and conclusions of the Central Party Committee, the NA and the Government for further review as well as adjust and supplement the local master plan on socio-economic development.
It is necessary to focus on strengthening the province’s strengths of agriculture and forestry in the direction of building modern rural areas, striving to turn Yen Bai into a relatively developed province in the northern midland and mountainous area.
The province should promote new advantages in transport infrastructure such as the Hanoi – Lao Cai Expressway, as well as advantages in the environment to develop effective policies to attract investment in industrial and agricultural development in a fast, sustainable and effective manner associated with environmental protection, while turning tourism into an important local economic sector.
Along with that Yen Bai should continue to promote the tradition of solidarity to well implement ethnic and religious affairs, strengthening national defence and security, maintaining political security, social order and safety, and improving the material and spiritual lives of ethnic minority people in the province, in addition to effectively carrying out hunger eradication and poverty alleviation work with focused investment in development for disadvantaged, deep-lying and remote areas.
NA Chairwoman Ngan also expressed her wish that former officials under the provincial Party Standing Committees would continue to contribute their experience, intellect and responsibility for Party building and the government construction in Yen Bai, while actively participating in the building of grassroots Party organisations, combating corruption, wastefulness and negativity, and preventing and repelling degeneration of political ideology, morals and lifestyles among Party members.
The top legislator recognised recommendations from the delegation towards the NA operation, saying that the NA has always allocated the central budget to provide resources for development in difficult upland and ethnic minority areas.
Agreeing with the delegates comments on the increased NA meetings with voters, she said that the NA is working in this direction, adding that not only twice before and after each NA meeting, NA deputies have increased contact with voters associated with their regular duties.
