Bitcoin pushed past the $10,000 mark for the first time on Tuesday, hovering around £10,035 (£7,541 ) on the CEX exchange. That’s double its price just a month ago, ten times its price in January and an astonishing 100,000 times what it was worth in 2010. But while some think they’re the answer, others think they’re at best a bubble and at worse an outright con. “Prices are in bubble for sure – people are buying for speculative (reasons) only and that is when you have to worry it’s a proper unsustainable bubble,” said Neil Wilson, a senior market analyst at ETX Capital. JP Morgan’s chief executive went further – “It’s just not a real thing, eventually it will be closed,” he said – describing Bitcoin as “stupid” and a “fraud” that will “blow up”.
