We learned yesterday that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 became the best-selling digital entry in the franchise’s history and now, unsurprisingly, we’ve also learned that it was last week’s top-selling game in the UK. Black Ops 4 unseated FIFA 19 to claim the top spot in UK sales for the 41st week of the year. This has become old hat for the Call of Duty franchise annually at this point and there’s a good chance that it could remain atop the charts for a couple more weeks. What’s perhaps most interesting though is that, according to GamesIndustry.biz, Black Ops 4 has the lowest physical sales in the UK in 11 years, which makes it the worst boxed-copy launch since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. By comparison to last year’s Call of Duty: WWII, physical sales are down nearly 50%. There are many reasons as to why this could be the case but one of which just seems to the aforementioned rise in digital sales. Activision confirmed in their statement this weekend that Black Ops 4 had more users this weekend online compared to WWII last year, so there’s a chance that Call of Duty isn’t falling off whatsoever and more consumers are just embracing digital purchases.
