With all the Emmys given out, the Golden Globes has announced the recipient of its first prize of the season: the coveted Cecil B. DeMille Award, which recognizes someone who has made a lasting impact on the film industry. This year, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood star Tom Hanks will be honored live during the Golden Globe Awards on January 5, 2020. Long, impressive résumé aside, Hanks would still make the cut purely for the way "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get" has stuck to the cultural consciousness. He joins living legends Jeff Bridges, Oprah Winfrey , Meryl Streep , George Clooney, and many more. "For more than three decades, he's captivated audiences with rich and playful characters that we've grown to love and admire," Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Lorenzo Soria said in a statement to Variety . "As compelling as he is on the silver screen, he's equally so behind the camera as a writer, producer and director." Hanks has 15 Golden Globe nominations and eights wins, so it was about time, HFPA.
