HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police on Friday named as many as 13 organisations operating in Telangana as fronts of the banned CPI (Maoist). These included NGOs and student unions. Speaking at a press meet, Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar threatened to act against anyone involved with organisation such as the student body, Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika (TVV). Claiming that Maoists were trying to penetrate all sections of society, including student groups, professionals, minorities, and women’s groups through the fronts, Kumar gave a list of at least a dozen such organisations. These included Adivasi Vidyarthi Sangham, Chaitanya Mahila Sangham, Civil Liberties Committee, Committee for Release of Political Prisoners, Democratic Students Union, Human Rights Forum, Kula Nirmulana Porata Samithi, Patriotic Democratic Movement, Praja Kala Mandali, Telangana Democratic Forum and Telangana Praja Front, besides TVV. The Hyderabad police, along with district cops from Jogulamba Gadwal and intelligence sleuths, recently searched the house of TVV state president B Maddileti in Nallakunta and seized evidence.
