Singer Lata Mangeshkar is recovering at home after being rushed to hospital with breathing difficulties on Monday morning. The 90-year-old star was taken to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital in the early hours but has since been checked out to recover at home, her family have revealed. Hospital sources claimed Lata had been in intensive care after being rushed for treatment at 1:30am. They also said the nonagenarian was receiving support from a ventilator and was in a ‘critical condition.’ Her family have told news agency PTI that Lata was suffering from a viral chest infection. “Presently, she is on a path of recovery. We could have treated her at home. But we decided to get her to hospital. It’s close to our home plus treatment is thorough,” they said in a statement. Lata, who turned 90 in September, is regarded as an icon in Indian cinema. She has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindu films and has multiple credits as a producer. In 1980 she was awarded India’s highest award in cinema – the Dadasaheb Phalke Award – by the Government of India for her extraordinary contribution. Read More Showbiz editor’s picks
