ROMEOVILLE, IL — WGN Chief Meteorologist Tom Skilling and other scientists gather for a panel discussion on climate change this Saturday, Feb. 1, at Lewis University, 1 University Parkway, Romeoville. The free event starts at 1 p.m. and will be held in the Sancta Alberta Chapel. Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-03) is moderating the discussion to draw attention that the U.S. needs to act now. Featured panelists include: Doug Sisterson, Research Meteorologist, Argonne National Laboratory (Retired) Seth Darling, Director of the Center for Molecular Engineering, Argonne National Laboratory Donald Wuebbles, Henry E. Preble Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign Laura Franklin, Dean of the College of Humanities, Fine Arts, and Communications at Lewis University Skilling has remarked in past forums that he didn’t come to his views on climate change easily. “I was skeptical,” the esteemed meteorologist said. “This notion that climate change is a hoax is the only hoax around. Climate change is very real and ongoing.” According to Skilling, greenhouse gases are changing jet streams, which in turn affect weather, leading to more powerful hurricanes, damaging tornadoes, severe flooding and wildfires.
