Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 2 Oakland is getting another restaurant from acclaimed chef Paul Canales, known for his hip Spanish destination Duende as well as his long stint as the executive chef of pioneering Cal-Italian restaurant Oliveto. Called Occitania, the new restaurant is expected to debut in the spring at 2401 Broadway, on the ground floor of the upcoming Kissel Uptown Oakland hotel by Hyatt. The new spot will take inspiration from the Occitan linguistic region, which covers southern France, the alpine region of Italy's Piemonte and Spain's Catalonia. Famous dishes from the varied cuisine include cassoulet, the hearty white bean-and-meat stew; ratatouille, the summertime vegetable classic; and bouillabaisse, the seafood stew. As with Duende, Occitania will showcase ingredients from local farmers, ranchers and fisheries. Along with small bites and starters, one section of the menu will be devoted to baked gratins, with dishes costing $6 to $28.
