With the Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh approaching, the Congress central leadership Tuesday appointed late stalwart Virbhadra Singh 's wife and Lok Sabha MP Pratibha Singh as the state president. It was a signal that the party has no option but to bank on the legacy of Virbhadra, who served as Himachal Chief Minister several times. Singh, many in the party admitted, never allowed a second line of leadership to emerge during his lifetime. Consequently, the Congress has no stalwart leader in the state barring Anand Sharma.
