Barack obama speech 4 december 2013
Joe Biden rarely goes anywhere without mentioning “my friend Barack.” Pete Buttigieg has a line in his stump speech about how he first went to Iowa to campaign for another “young man with a funny name.” Even though Barack Obama will not endorse in this primary, he has made a point of meeting with almost all the candidates, and he looms over the race. But the politician personally closest to Obama is Deval Patrick. Former President Barack Obama, the Democratic Party’s biggest fundraising attraction, will headline a money-raising event for the party’s eventual nominee next week in Los Altos. Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez also will appear at the Nov. 21 fundraiser, where the cheapest ticket will be $10,000 — and that doesn’t include a photo with the headliner. Getting a snap with Obama will cost $35,000, according to an invitation to the event obtained by The Chronicle. The priciest ticket? A $355,000 contribution, which earns the donor access to a VIP reception and the “premium package” at the national party convention in July in Milwaukee. The fundraiser will benefit the Democratic Unity Fund, a new initiative of the national party. Obama described it in an email to supporters this year as “a promise that whoever earns our nomination, he or she will have a strong, united, and well-organized DNC ready to spring into action the moment the … [Read more...] about Obama to star at Bay Area fundraiser where top ticket costs $355,000
President Donald Trump denied reports Tuesday that his administration was considering reviving a policy that led to thousands of migrant children being separated from their families. Then he grossly mischaracterized the facts by repeating his assertion that President Barack Obama "separated the children" and that "I'm the one that stopped it." The president's statements to reporters in the Oval Office came after Trump forced out top officials at the Homeland Security Department, including Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, out of frustration that more wasn't being done to curb record-setting migration of families from Central America. After ABC News' Jon Karl asked Trump repeatedly whether he planned to separate families again, Trump said no but added that families are coming in droves to the U.S. because there are no repercussions. "President Obama separated children. They had child separation. I was the one that changed it," he said. This significantly misrepresents U.S. … [Read more...] about Trump denies he’ll revive family separations, distorts Obama border policy: Analysis
