Asian Americans Emerging as a Strong Voice Against Critical Race Theory | Opinion
Critical race theory (CRT) is a divisive, discriminatory ideology that judges people on the basis of their skin color. It has penetrated our society—it's in federal agencies' and federal contractors' "bias training," in school curricula and many corporations' "diversity training." Few are willing to speak out against it for fear of being labeled racists or white supremacists. Asian Americans, however, have emerged as a powerful voice against this pernicious ideology. The Chinese American Citizens Alliance of Greater New York (CACAGNY) delivered the most vigorous rejection of CRT yet, calling it "a hateful, divisive, manipulative fraud." CACAGNY is one of the oldest chapters of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance, which was founded in San Francisco in 1895 to respond to nationwide discrimination and violence against Chinese Americans. For more than a century, this organization has helped Asian Americans, especially Chinese Americans, to "quicken the spirit of American … [Read more...] about Asian Americans Emerging as a Strong Voice Against Critical Race Theory | Opinion

With his work on the Sons of Anarchy franchise complete, following his firing by FX in 2019, Kurt Sutter has set his sights on Netflix. The Sons of Anarchy creator and Mayans M.C. co-creator is teaming with Blumhouse for a movie that's described as a drama but certainly sounds like a horror film. According to a tweet from Netflix, This Beast is set in an "18th century English village besieged by a mysterious and elusive beast." A longer description reads, "Dozens of innocents are slaughtered and the mayhem is driven to puritanical heights by religious fanaticism. The impossible task of killing the beast falls to a lowly trapper who promises he can stop the carnage. But for him this hunt is not a professional mission, it's a deeply personal one. The idea was inspired by The Beast of Gévaudan, a true story about a mysterious beast that terrorized a French village in the 1760s." The Beast of Gévaudan story dates back to a French province in the 1700s. According to historical … [Read more...] about Sons Of Anarchy Creator Kurt Sutter Making This Beast, A Netflix Movie With Blumhouse
Hitting the Gym, Too Much
At face value, over-exercising doesn’t seem like a big deal. Yet, there are those who hit the gym with a compulsion approaching self-harm . Writer Katherine Schreiber and co-author Heather Hausenblas, Ph.D., have put together a well-researched resource on this very topic; their book The Truth About Exercise Addiction: Understanding the Dark Side of Thinsperation is on shelves this week. And Schreiber, having first-hand knowledge of the compulsion, has written honestly about it. Here are some of her thoughts on the topic: With obesity a huge concern, do people see this issue as a non-issue? The biggest problem is that, given society's insistence on being active atop of our cultural hysteria to lose weight, be thin, and look fit, the signs and symptoms of exercise addiction often get misinterpreted as evidence of an over-exerciser's healthy commitment. Obesity is definitely a huge concern. (No pun intended.) The CDC estimates that 34.9 percent of Americans qualify as … [Read more...] about Hitting the Gym, Too Much
