This is how companies can meaningfully support Black-owned businesses

· February 26, 2021 ·

advertisement advertisement advertisement 2020 was one of those years that will “live in infamy” as President Franklin D. Roosevelt put it. And, with the first weeks of 2021 giving its predecessor a run for its money, there has been little time to come up for air, pause, reflect, and respond to any of the events we have endured. advertisement advertisement But, for those of us who are committed to change, it is imperative that we do just that. One of the greatest inequities the last year brought to the surface in glaring detail, was the disproportionately negative impact of the economic downturn on Black-owned businesses. Because Yelp is in the business of helping businesses, this is where we felt we could be the most intentional and authentic in our response. From that starting point, our plan grew to encompass five strategies that we’ve observed have been put into practice by other companies to support Black-owned … [Read more...] about This is how companies can meaningfully support Black-owned businesses

Biggest pressure on All Blacks comes from within, says Tuipulotu

· November 23, 2020 ·

SYDNEY: All Blacks lock Patrick Tuipulotu moved to dampen criticism of the side on Monday following back-to-back defeats in the Tri-Nations, saying their own expectations are higher than those from outside the team. The All Blacks were heavily criticised by media and fans after a 25-15 loss to Argentina on Nov. 14, which followed a 24-22 defeat to the Wallabies a week earlier. The outpouring of criticism provoked a response from captain Sam Cane, who said it was overdone and that fans had no idea what was going on within the team. Tuipulotu said the angry reaction to their poor performances was nothing compared to the pressure the team puts on itself to deliver. "There is always internal pressure on the All Blacks standard and how we do things that outweighs the pressure we get from outside the environment," he said on a conference call on Monday ahead of Saturday's rematch with the Pumas. "The coach is the face of the squad and is always going to be in the firing line. … [Read more...] about Biggest pressure on All Blacks comes from within, says Tuipulotu

RIL to spin off oil-to-chemical biz into separate arm with $25bn loan

· February 23, 2021 ·

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries has announced the contours of carving out of its oil-to-chemicals (O2C) business into an independent unit with a USD 25 billion loan from the parent, as it looks to unlock value by selling stakes to global investors like Saudi Aramco. The reorganisation will enable the focused pursuit of opportunities across the O2C value chain, improve efficiencies through self-sustaining capital structure and a dedicated management team, and attract dedicated pools of investor capital, according to a company presentation filed with the stock exchanges. The O2C business unit holds Reliance's oil refinery and petrochemical assets and retail fuel business but not upstream oil and gas producing fields such as KG-D6 and textiles business. Once completed, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) -- the company founded by Dhirubhai Ambani in the late 1960s -- will house only the upstream oil and gas … [Read more...] about RIL to spin off oil-to-chemical biz into separate arm with $25bn loan

More demand for telemedicine as Indonesians stay away from hospitals amid COVID-19

· June 16, 2020 ·

JAKARTA: As soon as Indonesia announced its first two COVID-19 cases on Mar 2, hundreds of thousands of people began flocking to online healthcare platform Halodoc with COVID-19-related questions. Its CEO Jonathan Sudharta recalled a severe bottleneck on its system, as doctors on the platform struggled to respond to the surge of queries. “A lot of people were panicking. Many were wondering if they had COVID-19. Many were wondering if they were at risk,” he told CNA. “But our system was not built to deal with a pandemic. It was not built to deal with such a sudden surge. We have 22,000 doctors on our platform but if a million people came at once, there would be severe problems. So we had to work fast.” Mr Sudharta and his team rushed to put out a special COVID-19 section on Halodoc’s website and mobile app, which they completed in just 36 hours. Noticing that most people who came to the platform were asking the same general questions about the disease, they quickly … [Read more...] about More demand for telemedicine as Indonesians stay away from hospitals amid COVID-19
