Viettel’s brand was valued at more than US$3.1 billion. — VNS PhotoViet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Viettel again took first position in the list of the top 50 most valuable brands in Việt Nam in 2018 with a value of more than US$3.1 billion, increasing 24 per cent from the previous year. The list, released by Brand Finance – a UK-based brand evaluation company, showed that Viettel’s value was equal to the total value of the second and third placed firms on the list. In the ranking of the 300 most valuable telecom brands in the world, Viettel took 47th position, up one place from 2017 and equal to other telecom providers such as Singtel and Ooredoo, which held the leading position in Singapore and the Middle East, respectively. In Southeast Asia, Vietnam’s brand value ranked sixth and 613 billion USD lower than the leading country in the region Indonesia. Companies in Vietnam have experienced fierce competition over the last few years, both qualitative and quantitative. Many have been forced to close down while others are still in business but struggling to move forward. The question is how to make a brand not only sustainable but also grow in value in the context of fierce global competition and rapid digitalization. Viettel has been ranked second on a list of the most valuable telecommunications brands in Southeast Asia in 2017, compiled by the UK-based Brand Finance, which specializes in brand valuation and valuations of intangible assets. The military-run telecommunications giant’s value increased to $2.686 billion in 2017. Its brand value ranked it second after Telko Indonesia, which has a value of $4.335 billion, and higher than Singtel (Singapore), with $2.625 billion, Axiata (Malaysia) with $2.583 billion, and PLDT (Philippines) with $1.854 billion. On the list, Vinamilk, Masan Group, FPT and Asia’s Seach365 were listed among the top 50 brands. According to the Brand Finance’s report, the aggregate value of those 50 brands is approximately US$ 7.26 billion.
