Frenchman Thomas and Thai girlfriend Araya had big plans for Vietnam. Their first visit to the country in August had impressed them so much that they wanted to return for a much longer trip. The first trip happened after they’d traveled from France to Bangkok to visit Araya's parents. As they socialized with Vietnamese people and learnt about different places in the country, they regretted not visiting Vietnam sooner. After the trip, Thomas researched more information about other travel destinations in Vietnam. Fond of motorbikes, he planned to enjoy exploring the northern mountains on one, apart from a leisure trip to Nha Trang, a resort town in central Vietnam, and Ho Chi Minh City for Araya. Vietnam’s beaches are a popular draw among foreigners, but those who want long holidays in the country face complicated visa rules and procedures. Photo acquired by VnExpress The plan was to spend the entire month of November exploring Vietnam, before Thomas starting a … [Read more...] about Vietnam visa hassles could deter long holidayers

Visa exemption: key factor to boost international arrivals
Hanoi (VNA) â Visa exemption policy is one of the leading factors behind the growing number of international visitors, particularly those from Western Europe, to Vietnam this year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT). The numbers of tourists from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain and Italy, the five countries enjoying the 15-day visa exemption, have grown between 13.8 and 30.1 percent since the policy was applied in July 2015, compared to an average 5.35 percent growth recorded in 2010-2014. The VNAT said visa exemption has been a global trend with the rate of tourists required to have visas to get access to global destinations reducing from 77 percent in 2008 to 61 percent in 2015. Vietnamâs neighbouring countries also use visa exemption to attract more visitors. Indonesia has exempted visa for citizens of 169 countries; the Philippines, 165; Malaysia, 164; Singapore, 160; Thailand, 61; Laos, 40; and Cambodia, 25. Vietnam-US economic cooperation – Viet Nam – News
Hanoi Times - Within the first decade after the 1975 end of the war, Vietnam’s economy faced stagnation, with inflation hitting 700 percent in 1986 and a serious shortage of funds for investment. In that year, the Communist Party in its Sixth Congress approved a broad reform package, "Doi Moi" (or Renovation), that introduced market reforms and dramatically improved Vietnam’s business climate. The country started shifting its central-planning economy based on the Soviet style toward a market-oriented mechanism. The country issued the law on foreign investment in Vietnam in 1987, which reaffirmed the market opening policy that provided a higher legal framework to help the country attract foreign investment.Over the past two decades ending in 2007, Vietnam has attracted $98 billion of foreign investment, of which operational projects totaled $83 billion. About climate change, homosexuality, traffic rules, illegal foreign workers in Vietnam and others…
Commenting on " Climate change needs long-term plan," Tom Harris, Executive Director of the International Climate Science Coalition (ICSC) from Ottawa, Canada, wrote: "It is very unlikely that global warming will cause increased extreme weather. If the world warms due to increasing greenhouse gas emissions, temperatures at high latitudes are forecast to rise the most, reducing the difference between arctic and tropical temperatures. Since this differential drives weather, we should see weaker mid-latitude cyclones in a warmer world and so less extremes in weather, not more." It is also a mistake to blame human activities for current weather extremes. For example, the Non-governmental International Panel on Climate Change (nipccreport.org) includes a study published this year in "Geophysical Research Letters", about the causes of the 2010 Russian heat wave. Researchers concluded that it "was due to internal atmospheric dynamical processes" and "it is unlikely that the warming … [Read more...] about About climate change, homosexuality, traffic rules, illegal foreign workers in Vietnam and others…
