Leaked video exposes how Hong Kong hospitals’ patient data can be accessed by anyone
Patient data at Hong Kong's public hospitals can be accessed by any user with no need for a password, a leaked video shown to the Post and verified by multiple hospital sources has revealed. Software developer Wong Ho-wa warned the programme used in public accident and emergency (A&E) wards called AEIS carried a huge risk and was built with an "intentional back door", allowing anyone to access patients' files while leaving no trace. It meant there was no control over who had permission to access the data and no way of monitoring who had seen it, Wong said. Public hospitals in the city were already under fire over concerns that information leaks from hospitals had led police to arrest injured protesters who took part in demonstrations against a contentious extradition bill last Wednesday. Dr Pierre Chan, the medical sector lawmaker said the programme could be accessed without using passwords, prompting fear that such loophole had helped the police force identify protesters. … [Read more...] about Leaked video exposes how Hong Kong hospitals’ patient data can be accessed by anyone
Early admissions exercise for ITE and polytechnics to open in May and June, selection process adjusted for COVID-19
SINGAPORE: Students seeking early admission to the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) for entry in 2021 will be able to do so from next Wednesday (May 27). The Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) for all five polytechnics will also proceed in June, despite the COVID-19 situation. Due to social distancing measures, EAE selections will largely be conducted via electronic means, the Education Ministry (MOE) said in a press release on Monday. These include online interviews and portfolio submissions over email. However, "on-campus selection will still need to proceed for some courses, where the selection process cannot be meaningfully replicated in a remote manner," MOE said. Examples of such courses include ITE’s Nitec in Nursing and Higher Nitec in Performance Production, as well as Nanyang Polytechnic’s Diploma in Oral Health Therapy, for which an in-person dexterity test will be conducted for shortlisted candidates. “In all instances where applicants need to come onto … [Read more...] about Early admissions exercise for ITE and polytechnics to open in May and June, selection process adjusted for COVID-19
Marseille’s hospitals back on crisis footing as COVID-19 spreads again in France
MARSEILLE: Each day this week, Professor Dominique Rossi has convened a COVID-19 crisis group as intensive care wards in hospitals in Marseille fill up after a summer lull, deciding on how best to distribute beds and find extra staff. With 95 per cent of the southern Bouche du Rhone region's 80 intensive care beds set aside for COVID-19 patients now occupied, Rossi has dusted off his peak-pandemic playbook to deal with a jump in patients at the epicentre of the coronavirus' resurgence in France. READ: French government to consider local lockdowns as COVID-19 worsens "We're back to the working routine we adopted in April," Rossi, a urologist who heads the Marseille Hospitals' Medical Commission, told Reuters. France has seen one of the sharpest accelerations in new coronavirus infections in Western Europe since mid-July. The Bouche du Rhone registered a positivity rate - the rate at which tests show an infection - of 14.2 per cent on Wednesday, more than double the … [Read more...] about Marseille’s hospitals back on crisis footing as COVID-19 spreads again in France
Direct School Admission applications to open May 12, selection process tweaked due to COVID-19
SINGAPORE: Students applying to secondary schools and junior colleges through the Direct School Admission (DSA) exercise for entry in 2021 will be able to do so from Tuesday (May 12). DSA exercises will proceed despite the COVID-19 situation and will not be delayed “unnecessarily”, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said in a press release on Monday. “As part of our continued emphasis on holistic education and broadening definitions of success, we want to preserve this pathway for this year’s primary and secondary school graduates, and not delay the exercises unnecessarily.” Education Minister Ong Ye Kung previously announced that the DSA exercise this year will proceed, with some adjustments in how schools evaluate students in light of COVID-19 social distancing measures. This includes conducting interviews through video-conferencing tools.
