Clipper Race founder comes to Da Nang
Da Nang (VNA) â Sailing legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has arrived in Da Nang and will be attending the awards dinner at the Furama hotel in Da Nang on February 22. Knox-Johnston is the founder and chairman of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. The race organiser announced on February 21 that an awards ceremony will begin at 5.30pm, and awards will be given to the winner of the 7th stage, the crew of Northern Irish Derry-Londonderry-Doire, who crossed the finish line on February 17. Garmin came in second and Great Britain finished third. LMAX Exchange followed, ahead of Qingdao, Vietnam, Clipper Telemed+, IchorCoal, PSP Logistics, UNICEF, Mission Performance, and Visit Seattle. Da Nang (VNA) â A ceremony to present prizes to winners of the 7th leg of Clipper Race - âDa Nang - New Discovery of Asia Raceâ, was organised in five-star Furama Resort, the central coastal city of Da Nang on February 22. Derry-Londonderry-Doire yacht from North Ireland won the Clipper Race leg into Vietnam. The Garmin was the first runner-up while the third prize was given to Great Britain. Da Nang advised to attract more MICE
The central city of Da Nang should take advantage of its favourable location and conditions for hosting international events, a workshop heard on Sept.18. Local Economic Strategy Institute director Ho Ky Minh said the city has many advantages to develop meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) hosting. The advantages include being near three world cultural heritage sites - Hue ancient capital, Hoi An ancient town and My Son sanctuary - and having access by road, rail, sea and air. "The city is also a gateway to the Central Highlands region and neighbouring countries such as Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar on the East-West Economic Corridor," he said. Da nang’s hotels raise room prices before firework festival
The international firework festival (April 29-30) is coming, but many tourists cannot book rooms in Da nang because of room shortage and the prices have pushed up by 2-3 times. Two weeks before the event, Ms. Lan from Hanoi called a hotel near My Khe beach and was informed that the lowest price was VND1.5 million ($72) per room during the festival, which is double the normal price. "We cannot book air tickets to Da Nang so we planed to go there by car. But perhaps we will have to change our plan because hotels in the center quoted at least VND2 million ($100)/night, while hotels that are far from the center also quoted at least VND1.5 million per night," Lan says.
