Da Nang (VNA) - The central city of Da Nang plans to open a 31.8km Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route connecting the Da Nang International Airport and favourite destinations with Hoi An City in neighbouring Quang Nam Province. Head of the cityâs managing board of Priority Infrastructure Projects, Luong Thach Vy, has confirmed to Vietnam News that the bus route is included in the World Bank-funded sustainable development project. Vy said on July 25 the route will be constructed later this year before beginning operation in 2018 with 10 BRT standard buses. The route will link the cityâs downtown area, shopping centres, tourism destinations and Hoi An City, and ease traffic in the city from 2016-20. The central city asked transport departments of Quang Nam and Da Nang to set up bus stops and reserve land for terminal development both in Hoi An and Da Nang cities. The American Council of Engineering Companies of New York recently announced that central Da Nang’s Dragon (Rong) Bridge has won the Diamond Award in the 2014 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) in the structural systems category, reports Da Nang Today. This is the highest honour for a project outside the US. The award presentation will be made at a gala on March 29, 2014 in New York city. The annual competition, organised by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York), honours member firms for design achievements which show their superior skills and ingenuity. The Dragon Bridge project was built under the consultancy of the US-based Ammann and Whitney Consulting Engineers with the Louis Berger Group Inc, along with Vietnam’s Technology Development and Investment Consultant N°533. The Saigon-Da Nang Investment Joint Stock Company (SDN), a member of Saigon Investment (SGI), began construction of a US$110 million resort started in the central city of Da Nang on May 4. The 12-hectare Le Meridien Danang Resort and Spa lies on 500m long Son Tra-Dien Ngoc coastline. It includes a five-star hotel with 349 bed rooms and a villa and apartment area for sale and lease. The second chartered flight from Russia with 150 tourists onboard arrived in the central Da Nang city on May 15. Earlier, on May 12, the first chartered flight from Novosibirsk city of Russia landed in Da Nang international airport, carrying 140 Russian visitors on board. The third flight will arrive in Da Nang on May 16. Apart from tourists to Da Nang, Hoi An and Nha Trang beach cities, the flights carry 60 representatives of Russia travel agents and the press to visit and study tourism potential of Da Nang and the central region.
