Malaysian gets 2 years in jail for fake cards Malaysian Lee Lih Cheng was sentenced to two years in prison for transporting fake credit cards and other valuable papers by the People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City on April 13. Cheng was arrested on September 5, 2011 after arriving at Tan Son Nhat Airport. While making a routine search of her luggage, police and customs officers discovered 50 credit cards and two passports and all of them were forgeries. Lee was going to use the fake cards to buy electronics equipment in Vietnam . At the trial, she pleaded guilty and asked the judge for clemency. However, according to the Jury, Lee's crime was particularly serious as she has violated Vietnam's financial system management right and could have caused instability in the business community. Experts criticize provisions in business lawsVietinBank teams up with LotteMart Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) will provide services for South Korea's LotteMart supermarkets according to a comprehensive cooperation deal signed by the two sides in HCMC on Thursday. At the signing ceremony, deputy general director Nguyen Van Du of VietinBank said his bank will provide finance and banking services to the retail stores of the South Korean firm. Under the agreement, VietinBank will issue cards and accept card payments and offer modern banking services at LotteMart supermarkets. Besides, both sides will jointly deploy marketing programs and enhance strategic cooperation to expand the supermarkets' network across the country. New office to promote trade with Tuscany An office to promote trade and investment between Viet Nam and Italy is set to open in central Italy's Tuscany region. Viet Nam's Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Hoang Long and Stefano Giovannelli, General Director of Tuscany Economic Promotion Agency (TEPA), yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the office. The office aims to play an important role in exchanging information on trade and investment between Viet Nam and the Tuscany region. Vietnamese or Italian business people who want to find out about business opportunities and policies in each other's countries can seek help from the office. The office is scheduled to open next month and be managed by a Vietnamese officer.
