Thomas Tuchel admits Chelsea still lag behind Manchester City as he prepares to face the runaway Premier League leaders in an FA Cup semi-final but vowed to hunt down Europe's "benchmark" club next season. Chelsea face City at Wembley on Saturday, with Tuchel chasing a maiden managerial win over Pep Guardiola, whose side are still on course for an unprecedented quadruple. The Blues' German boss believes Chelsea still have long-term ground to make up on City but has exhorted his players to close that gap just for 90 minutes. LONDON — Zack Steffen started and Christian Pulisic came off the bench to have a big impact, as Chelsea beat Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley. Only locals from the Wembley area will be allowed in rather than fans of the clubs. It’s part of a trial for the return of spectators that will require all attendees to produce a negative coronavirus test result. Leicester, the 2016 Premier League champion, is looking to reach its first FA Cup final since 1969. Southampton lifted the cup in 1976. UEFA is not interested in negotiating a European Super League, doubling down on the Premier League’s condemnation of reports that big clubs across Europe had signed onto a new, rich competition set to begin in 2023-24. The PL had issued an earlier statement tearing apart the concept , including the line that, “Fans of any club across Europe can currently dream that their team may climb to the top. We believe a European Super League would destroy this dream.” UEFA has released a statement with the support of the Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga as well as the ruling federations of their respective countries. There is currently "no evidence" the Indian COVID variant can evade vaccines, the environment secretary has said. The UK has recorded 77 cases of the "double mutant" variant, which is currently being reviewed by British scientists. George Eustice told Sky's Sophy Ridge On Sunday that although it is "a fairly small number at the moment - it is something that we are watching". The environment secretary added: "I'm told there is no evidence at the moment this particular variant is able to get around the vaccine or... that it is necessarily more contagious than the others - but we are looking at it, it will be studied."
