A man from the south-central Vietnamese province of Quang Ngai has stabbed himself multiple times, and later shared the self-filmed footage on social media as a way of seeking justice following unfair treatment by local authorities. Le Van Tho, a resident in An Ky Village, Tinh Ky Commune, uploaded a video on Monday to his Facebook page, showing self-inflicted stab wounds on his neck and chest, as a last resort to get some attention to his case. Speaking to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Tuesday, Tho said he decided to make the video to express his resentment at the Quang Ngai Fishing Port Management Committee. Ho Chi Minh City will persist in sidewalk clearance: chairman
The chairman of Ho Chi Minh City has called for local authorities to stay persistent in citywide efforts to clear its sidewalks and reestablish order on them during a recent meeting. The meeting, which was organized on Friday to focus on reviewing the city’s socio-economic background in the first quarter of 2017, heated up when the city’s chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong brought up the topic of sidewalk clearance. Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a session focused on the governance in the fourth industrial revolution on on January 20 morning (local time) as part of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The Vietnamese leader said governments should fine-tune institutions, regulations and policies to meet the development requirements brought about by the fourth industrial revolution. Chairman of northern Vietnam province intimidated for putting brakes on sand exploitation
The chairman of the People’s Committee in the northern Vietnamese province of Quang Ninh has been the victim of threats since launching a campaign to end harmful sand exploitation in a local river. Nguyen Tu Quynh, chairman of the provincial administration, has sent a letter notifying the prime minister that he and other officers had been threatened for ending a sand dredging project in the Cau River, an 83 kilometer long waterway snaking through Bac Ninh and Bac Giang Provinces. Speaking with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday, Chairman Quynh stated he had asked the Ministry of Public Security to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the investors behind the detrimental project.
