A quarter of a million workers will see their wages rise to £9.50 an hour today thanks to an increase in the "Real Living Wage". Workers will see their hourly rates rise from £9.30 to £9.50 an hour, offering a boost to households in the wake of a second coronavirus lockdown. In London, workers will see their pay jump to £10.85 an hour, a 10p rise. The increase is designed to help workers and families through the pandemic. However, not all workers will benefit from the boost as it depends on whether your employer is signed up to a voluntary scheme. The Real Living Wage is an hourly rate set by an organisation called the Real Living Wage Foundation. It sets its own minimum wage based on inflation and other societal factors - and employers can sign up to the scheme at any time.
