At the current dialogue session “Taking Action Together: Improving Care for Cancer Patients in ASEAN countries” at the 2018 World Cancer Congress held in Malaysia by the Union of International Cancer Control and Bayer, experts said the public and private healthcare sectors and NGOs had to collaborate closely to combat access barriers to innovative cancer medicines in Southeast Asia. The session heard that many people in the region lacked adequate access to cancer care, and the challenges faced by countries over access to medicines were multi-faceted and required contributions from all stakeholders. Many U.S. cancer patients struggle to afford life-saving medications As cancer drug costs rise, U.S. cancer patients are more likely than other medical patients to struggle with paying for prescription medications, according to a recent study. The financial burdens are especially high for patients under age 65 who cannot access Medicare, the government insurance program for the elderly, and for people with multiple medical conditions, researchers say. The prices of cancer-treating drugs are on the rise and a newer cancer medication can cost over $100,000 per year for each patient, the study team writes in the journal Cancer. 70 percent of cancer patients in country detected late Moreover, the fatal disease is on upward trend and more and more young people get it. Especially most popular cause of the disease is outside environment and patients’ wrong lifestyles. The K Hospital (the national cancer institute) in Hanoi, has always crowded with patients so that no chair in the treatment ward has left. Outside, there are so many people who have to sit and stand with anxiety to wait for their relatives every day. Medical workers said the overcrowding has seen for many years despite two additional treatment satellites had been operated. Assoc.
