Singapore will be first market globally to launch Disney+ with the Star brand that offers more mature content

· February 2, 2021 ·

When Disney+ first launched in the US in November 2019, the streaming platform by the House of Mouse had five content brands — Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, Disney, and National Geographic. With these five brands, Disney+ boasts an impressive line-up of content, but with a slate that was still generally family-friendly. However, this is about to change on Feb 23 — the day the streaming platform launches in Singapore — when Disney+ adds the Star brand to their collection. This makes Singapore the first market globally to launch Disney+ with all six content brands, offering you over 650 films and 15,000 episodes of content. Star is a familiar entertainment brand in Asia and will bring more mature Hollywood content to Disney+ subscribers. During the press event for Disney+ today (Feb 2), local media got a glimpse of what it will offer and there are plenty of titles available — both old and new. With Star, Disney+ subscribers can look forward to popular television shows like Grey's … [Read more...] about Singapore will be first market globally to launch Disney+ with the Star brand that offers more mature content

A taste of Sri Lanka in Singapore: Kotuwa finally opens after COVID-19 hiccup

· December 9, 2020 ·

If you’re craving for or curious about Sri Lankan food, there aren’t that many options in Singapore. So it's no surprise that Kotuwa’s official opening on Thursday (Dec 10) is a highly anticipated one, even if in an unusual but wonderful coronavirus-times plot twist, many in the foodie community have already sampled its spice-layered wares. From as early as April this year, Kotuwa’s menu has been a takeaway option at fine dining restaurant Cloudstreet during the “circuit breaker” and at pop-up dinners held in conjunction with other restaurants like Kin in recent months. Originally planned for its launch in July this year, Kotuwa is finally making its debut at the revamped boutique hotel Wanderlust and foodies are clamouring for a seat at Singapore's first full-service Sri Lankan restaurant. It’s not surprising considering Chef Rishi Naleendra’s reputation as one of the finest chefs in town as well as the popularity of his other eateries, Cloudstreet and modern bistro … [Read more...] about A taste of Sri Lanka in Singapore: Kotuwa finally opens after COVID-19 hiccup

Waterspout seen off southern Singapore on Sunday afternoon

· December 6, 2020 ·

SINGAPORE: A waterspout was seen off the southern coast of Singapore on Sunday (Dec 6) afternoon amid rainy and stormy weather. Photos provided by CNA readers showed a waterspout under heavy, dark grey clouds. A CNA reader who asked to be known as Mr Dave said he saw the waterspout from the balcony of his apartment at Tanjong Rhu in Kallang. He said the waterspout started to form after 4.30pm, just as a storm was starting. It lasted for at least 10 minutes, he said. The waterspout appeared to be located between Sebarok Island and St John's Island, said Mr Dave, adding that it "looked fairly static but could have been moving". "The lightning alarms went off and then the storm began to move in. And then (I) just noticed the spout as I looked outside," Mr Dave said. "It appeared, then seemed to disappear in the middle, and then reappeared stronger again." Another CNA reader, Mr Robin Leow, said that he saw the waterspout amid "rainy weather" from his … [Read more...] about Waterspout seen off southern Singapore on Sunday afternoon

PM Lee says it takes political leadership to convince people that COVID-19 measures are still needed

· November 8, 2020 ·

SINGAPORE: Calling COVID-19 not just a public health problem but also a political one, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that it takes political leadership to persuade people about keeping safety measures in place when case numbers are low. In a speech at the People’s Action Party’s (PAP) 36th Ordinary Party Conference, Mr Lee, who is the PAP’s secretary-general, said that although the situation is under control, the country has to get into a position where it can confidently open up further. “We can't simply relax the current restrictions, and hope that COVID-19 cases will remain low,” he said. Opening up further will increase the chances of getting more new cases, Mr Lee said, and so Singapore has to maintain its safe distancing measures. It also has to keep refining its safeguards - such as improving its contact tracing and testing regimes - to deal with the cases which pop up. This will minimise the danger of major outbreaks as the country opens up. Then … [Read more...] about PM Lee says it takes political leadership to convince people that COVID-19 measures are still needed
