MILAN: Zlatan Ibrahimovic is close to renewing his contract with AC Milan, club director Paolo Maldini announced on Saturday (Apr 10). The Swedish international, who turns 40 in October, has been credited with turning Milan into title contenders again since his return to the Serie A club in January last year. "For Ibrahimovic there are only small details missing, we are very close to renewal," Maldini said before Milan's Serie A game at Parma. Ibrahimovic, who helped Milan to their last Serie A title in 2011, is the club's top scorer with 15 goals in 16 games having missed others through injury and illness. The former Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona forward's current deal runs until the end of the season with discussions about an extension June 2022. Alize Johnson has played well for the Brooklyn Nets during his two 10-day contracts, so they are keeping him around. The Nets have signed Johnson to a multi-year contract that could be worth up to $4.1 million, the team announced Sunday ( Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN broke the story ). The contract details are not yet known, but it’s unlikely future years are fully guaranteed. Still, it is a good NBA contract for the 24-year-old out of Missouri State. NEW YORK - The Brooklyn Nets signed Alize Johnson to a multiyear contract Sunday after the forward’s solid play during his two 10-day contracts. Johnson has appeared in six games, averaging 7.8 points and 5.8 rebounds in about 13 minutes per game and shooting 65.7% from the field. He signed his first 10-day deal on March 22 and two nights later had team highs of 23 points and 15 rebounds off the bench in a loss at Utah. New Delhi: India's fuel demand contracted by a massive 9.1 per cent in the financial year ended March 31, the first in more than two decades, as a stringent lockdown imposed to curb the spread of the pandemic pummelled economic activity, government data showed on Friday. India consumed 194.63 million tonnes of petroleum products in 2020-21 as compared with 214.12 million tonnes demand in the previous year, according to the latest data released by the oil ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell ( PPAC ). This the first time that the fuel consumption has contracted since 1998-99, the most historical year for which government data is available. The demand contraction was led by diesel, the most-consumed fuel in the country. Diesel consumption fell 12 per cent to 72.72 million tonnes while petrol demand shrank 6.7 per cent to 27.95 million tonnes. 4,250 Thai Airways employees have been pushed into an early retirement after failing a screening process for remaining employees. The process was a necessary result of the national airlines’ dire financial situation and current debt restructuring program. Remaining staff are being forced into new, leaner contacts. The 13,554 remaining Thai Airways staff went through the screening program. 9,304 passed, according to the Bangkok Post. The 4,250 staff who failed will be able to receive early retirement benefits or apply for the next round of staff screening. Employees who passed the screening will continue to work for the legacy airline will sign contracts that start on May 1. Many of the ‘cushy’ contractual staff benefits are now missing from the new contracts, and more in line with modern aviation businesses.
