The Rong (Dragon) Bridge in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang, the world’s longest dragon-shape steel bridge, has claimed an award at the 2014 International Association of Lighting Designers’ (IALD) International Lighting Awards. The bridge on the Han River won the “Special Citations” Award for “a whimsical, well-crafted multimedia experience communicating national and religious identity”, IALD said in a statement. According IALD, the US$85-million bridge features 166 meters of undulating steel in the shape of a dragon, the symbol of prosperity in Vietnamese culture. This unique and beautifully lit bridge, which also breathes fire and sprays water, is set to become Da Nang’s new landmark, the pride of local people, and attract more tourists to the city, the agency said. Vietnamese photographer wins Paris honorable award
Photographer Viet Van is the only Vietnamese author who won the Honorable Mention Award at the famous photo contest Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3) for a set of photos in the "Fine Art" category for professional photographers. The competition drew thousands of photos from 85 countries, including renowned photographers who recently won the World Press Photo (WPP) contest. The jury had 13 members who are experts from world leading media groups like the Photo Exhibition of the US Congress, New York Times, American Illustration, American Photography, Times Magazine, Paris Match, the Sydney Morning Herald and others. Viet Van is also the only Vietnamese author who has won a prize at the Global Photographic Awards in London for two consecutive years, the third prize at the famous IPA competition organized by Lucie Foundation in the US. Journalist – photographic artist Ngo Dinh Hoa receives FIAP certificate of honor
BTO - Under the patronage of FIAP (the International Federation of Photographic Art), Cinema Club Smedderevo in cooperation with Cultural Center Smederevo (Serbia) held the contest of contemporary artistic photography 2012 (2nd International Salon of Photography Smederevo 2012) with the themes: Man and water (color or monochrome), Free (color), Free (monochrome). There were 11,492 works by 301 authors from 54 countries and territories attending this competition. The jury marked and selected 2,238 works for exhibition simultaneously awarded the outstanding works in the competition. Vietnamese-American artist wins Prince Claus Award
Vietnamese-American visual artist Le Quang Dinh will be presented with the 2010 Prince Claus Award at the Dutch Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City next week. An announcement on Prince Claus Fund's website said, "Le is honored for his strong creative work exploring different constructions of reality, for providing inspiration and practical opportunities for young artists, and for advancing free thought and contemporary visual expression in a context of indifference and hostility." It said the theme of the 2010 awards was "Frontiers of Reality." It is a "crucial theme for contemporary culture and development since perceptions of reality vary according to people's knowledge and the cultural, political and social environment in which they live. Over 200 outstanding businesswomen honored in Hanoi
A ceremony honoring outstanding businesswomen in various fields will be held at the Opera House in Hanoi on October 2. At an awards ceremony, 131 women and 71 collectives from 63 cities and provinces throughout the country will be honored at the event.
