Former Deputy Minister Receives JICA Award Former Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Cao Viet Sinh was granted the Japan International Agency (JICA) Contribution Award on January 23. This award honors his contributions to Vietnam-Japan relations. JICA Vietnam Chief Representative Mori Mutsuya and fellow sponsors highly appreciated Mr. Sinh’s strong negotiation skills and coordination. JICA’s Contribution Award is offered to local and foreign individuals and organizations to recognize outstanding contribution to JICA activities. This year’s award was granted to 10 representatives of 6 countries. Japan is currently the largest bilateral Official Development Assistance (ODA) donor in Vietnam. Japanese companies have invested about US$37 billion for over 2,000 projects in Vietnam. Bach Mai hospital saves life of baby with measles The baby, Dang Truc Chi from Thanh Tri District in Ha Noi, was brought to the hospital one month ago with symptoms of measles, such as high fever, a rash, a serious cough and sniffling. The faculty director, Nguyen Tien Dung, said that measles had attacked her lungs and destroyed her immune system. "That's why the baby was given emergency aid with a respiration machine, an antibiotic injection and an antibody containing drugs and Vitamin A," explained Dung. "The condition of the girl has improved after one month of treatment. She can now breathe normally and breastfeed," added Dung. Her three-year-old brother was hospitalised the same day with measles. He was, however, discharged one week ago as his condition was not very serious. Both Chi and her brother haven't been vaccinated against measles yet, while their mother has been given the vaccine. VSIP set to get new lease of life Leading industrial park and township developer VSIP will get 20 more years for operating an industrial park and township project in nothern Bac Ninh province. Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai on July 5 directed the land usage time and the operating lifetime of the township area in VSIP Bac Ninh project be implemented in accordance with the Decree 84/2007/ND-CP issued in 2007 and the Decree 121/2010/ND-CP issued in 2010. While Decree 84 regulates a foreign-invested residential development project will have land usage time of 70 years, Decree 121 regulates operating lifetime of this kind of project is equivalent to land usage time. This means land usage time and township lifetime will be extended from 50 to 70 years. Vietnamese stand in Sri Lanka attracts a large number of visitors The Vietnamese Embassy joins other countries and international organizations from India, Russia, the US, Japan, Malaysia and the UN in an exhibition in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka from February 4-7. This is the first time Vietnam has taken part in the event of this kind since the establishment of its embassy in the country in April last year. The Vietnamese stand shows video images of the country’s people and land, as well as lacquer products, souvenirs, and publications on bilateral ties.
