Clark: Border Activity Contradicts DHS Secretary’s ‘No Crisis’ Message

· March 2, 2021 ·

The speedy re-opening of mothballed detention facilities and new construction projects along the border show the Biden administration knows exactly what is on the horizon. In a press conference on Monday, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas clearly invites illegal border crossers to come to the United States, with one caveat — not now, but soon. “We are not saying don’t come, we are saying don’t come now because we will be able to deliver a safe and orderly process to them as quickly as possible,” Secretary Mayorkas stated when answering a question related to how long it might take to rebuild the United States’ immigration system. The re-opening of a facility in South Texas designed to accommodate an influx of unaccompanied migrant children and soft-sided detention facilities in the Texas Rio Grande Valley serve as telling signs of things to come. Primarily, that Secretary Mayorkas understands what the future holds as a result of the … [Read more...] about Clark: Border Activity Contradicts DHS Secretary’s ‘No Crisis’ Message

Vietnamese man jailed for helping S.Korean illegally enter Cambodia

· March 2, 2021 ·

A Vietnamese man has been sentenced to one year in prison for organizing a South Korean man’s illegal entry into Cambodia from Long An Province, located in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region. The People’s Court of Long An Province on Monday handed down the sentence on Nguyen Van Luy, a 33-year-old man dwelling in An Thanh Commune in Ben Cau District, situated in southern Tay Ninh Province. According to the indictment, Luy worked as a ‘xe om’ (motorbike taxi) driver at the Moc Bai border gate in Tay Ninh, where he got to know a South Korean man named Kim. On August 6, 2020, Kim texted Luy to ask the Vietnamese man to help his South Korean brother cross the border into Cambodia. After accepting the job for US$1,000, Luy asked an unknown person, who worked as a motorbike taxi driver in the area of Tho Mo Market in My Quy Tay Commune in Long An’s Duc Hue District, to transport the South Korean man to Cambodia for a wage of VND10 million ($434). On August 7, 2020, Luy booked a car to … [Read more...] about Vietnamese man jailed for helping S.Korean illegally enter Cambodia

Report: DHS Is Allowing Injured Migrants to Stay

· March 2, 2021 ·

President Joe Biden’s deputies are welcoming illegal migrants who are injured while trying to evade border barriers. The Los Angeles Times reported February 26: On a Feb. 18 call with advocates and lawyers, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas grew frustrated when asked about other cases in which border authorities expelled injured migrants under Title 42 [anti-epidemic rules] despite some being unable to walk after falling off the wall, according to [Linda] Corchado, who was on the call. “He was just appalled that people are jumping the wall,” Corchado said. “The point is with Title 42, that’s what happens … people are getting more and more desperate.” Corchado is the Texas-based director of legal services at Las Américas Immigrant Advocacy Center. She is also representing other migrants who were rescued from a snowstorm as they tried to sneak into American’s homeland. “So they’re trying to climb up the wall on the Mexican side, and they’re falling … [Read more...] about Report: DHS Is Allowing Injured Migrants to Stay

Greece blocks 35,000 migrants, plans to deport arrivals after Mar 1

· March 5, 2020 ·

KASTANIES/LESBOS, Greece: Greece has repulsed nearly 35,000 migrants trying to cross onto its territory illegally since Turkey opened its border nearly a week ago, government sources said on Thursday (Mar 5), as it prepares to deport hundreds of others who made it through. Thousands of migrants have made for Greece since Ankara said on Feb 28 that it would let migrants cross its borders into Europe, reneging on a commitment to hold them on its territory under a 2016 deal with the European Union. Hundreds have made it into Greece, many by sea to Lesbos and other Greek islands. Ankara and Athens are accusing each other of using excessive force in the border area, where migrants have clashed with security forces in recent days. The situation at the Kastanies border crossing, where Greek and Turkish riot police both used tear gas on Wednesday, was calm on Thursday morning. Migrants huddled in tents and makeshift camps on the Turkish side of the border. Greek border guards … [Read more...] about Greece blocks 35,000 migrants, plans to deport arrivals after Mar 1
