VOV.VN - Few countries have as many of their citizens working abroad as Vietnam, or depend so greatly on labour exports for economic vitality, says the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. According to the Department, it has supplied an enormous amount of guest workers, nearly 55,600 to foreign markets under official arrangements since 2011, eight out of 10 of whom were unskilled workers. Expert tells why farmers do not enjoy fruits of their labour – Opinion
The Hanoitimes - Vietnamese farmers are put at a disadvantage by current policies and the lack of effective oversight and competent regulators, one expert said. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations’ Centre for Sustainable Rural Development, said in an interview about the position of farmers in the rice production chain, that farmers have little control over their own products. Leading agricultural experts have said that the Vietnam Northern Food Corporation (Vinafood 1) and the Vietnam Southern Food Corporation (Vinafood 2) showed their face as profit takers who buy low-quality rice from farmers at low prices for governmental rice export contracts without paying attention to trademark. This affects farmers, as their profits continue to decrease in recent years, prompting many to leave their fields fallow. What is your take on the current situation? I totally agree with that comment. We are trying to train farmers in five … [Read more...] about Expert tells why farmers do not enjoy fruits of their labour – Opinion
Bản in : Skilled labour shortage for software companies
Da Nang (VNA) – A shortage of high-quality labourers has caused headaches for a range of software companies in central Da Nang City that wanted to do business with foreign countries. Statistics from the city Software Association showed that only 600 of 3,000 IT students meet the requirements of local software companies after graduating last year. In the first six months of this year, there are up to 1,600 job vacancies related to the IT sector, including programmers, application developers and software managers, from more than 100 software companies in the city, the association said. Seeking ways to paint a better FDI
Vietnam has shifted its focus from quantity to quality when it comes to attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). But, the country must remove inherent obstacles to improve its investment climate. Wonderful Theme Park was supposed to be a milestone in tourism development for Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and for the whole of the southern region. Introduced by Good Choice Limited Company from the US in 2008, the project was supposed to comprise residential and office buildings, world class hotels, a shopping complex, an entertainment theme park and an underwater aquarium. However, four years later, this US$1.3 billion project remained on paper. Last month the Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee decided to revoke its investment certificate after the developer left without a word. Wonderful Theme Park is just one of many FDI projects which have seen their investment certificates revoked in recent years. Malaysia’s Lion Group had its investment certificate for a US$9.8 … [Read more...] about Seeking ways to paint a better FDI
