A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That: The mother-daughter duo bringing authentic Indian cuisine to home cooks

· April 12, 2021 ·

This story was first published on capsulenz.com . No matter how close you are with your mother or daughter, the idea of teaming up to create a cookbook – and then taking your kitchen skills and putting them on display for a live audience – is not for the faint-hearted. So much of the cooking that Jayshri and Laxmi Ganda grew up with was taught by observing, rather than reading recipes – making it less accessible for younger generations or those just starting out to learn about the glorious flavours of Indian cuisine. They decided to change that by creating their own cookbook, A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That. Like most kids, when Jayshri Ganda was young she had nothing but disinterest in the Gujarati meals her mother created in the family home. “I grew up in the 1980s, and there weren’t even Indian restaurants in New Zealand back then,” she laughs. It was only as she grew older that she realised the depth, complexity and sheer deliciousness … [Read more...] about A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That: The mother-daughter duo bringing authentic Indian cuisine to home cooks

· April 12, 2021 ·

A SAVVY mum has revealed why spring is the perfect time to revamp your finances as she shares her money-saving tips and tricks to help others. Samantha Edwards, 29, from Manchester, has already earned more than £500 this year - just from using cashback, where you get a percentage of the amount it cost paid back to you - and is always looking for new ways to be thrifty and utilise her expenses. The student nurse, who is mum to Grayson, three, and Betsy, one, was forced to become ‘money savvy’ after she was made redundant just days after giving birth to her first child. Her son Grayson was born prematurely and Samantha was made redundant the week she brought him home - so she had to cut back costs in order to take 15 months off work. She believes the change in season is the perfect time for fellow mums to ‘spring clean’ their finances - especially with her easy tips such as double checking your direct debits. Samantha said: "I worked in a bank before I had kids so I was … [Read more...] about I lost job days after giving birth – but money hacks & clever saving means I’ve now saved £1000s, here’s how you can

The Power of Breasts

· April 12, 2021 ·

The gorgeous cover Source: Pegasus Books I was late to everything, it seems. I didn't get my period until I was 15 and I always cheated on those sheets the girls passed around in class that said, "What goes at the end of a sentence AND did you get it yet?"  But I was way behind wearing a bra, too, and the subject of great mockery because I had no strap that boys could snap. Instead, I had "gro-bras" (What a name!), size 32 AAAA, which was just a sheet of stretchy fabric. Yeah, breasts mattered. But then, of course, I grew up, and as soon as I hit my twenties, I was small enough so that I could appreciate my ballerina like body and stop wearing a bra altogether, and I have never looked back. HOW NOT TO BE A ROLE MODEL 2013 Mom, can I get breast implants?” The words made me freeze in my desk chair. I struggled to compose my face into a benign expression before swiveling to greet Chloe in the doorway of my home office. “Hi, hon,” I said, pausing so she could see … [Read more...] about The Power of Breasts
