US hands over training facilities to Vietnam coast guard

A ceremony marking the handover was held April 9 at the offices of the 3rd Regional Coast Guard in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau. Attending the ceremony were Vietnam Coast Guard commander Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, U.S. Consul General Marie Damour and other officials, the U.S. embassy said in a Facebook post Saturday. Lt. Gen. Son said that Vietnam highly appreciated the U.S. gesture and considered the event "an important milestone of the Vietnam-U.S. partnership," helping Vietnam improve its law enforcement capacity at sea. The cooperation between the coast guards of both countries has strengthened in recent years. In 2017, the U.S. Coast Guard handed over the Hamilton-class (the second-largest class of vessels in the U.S. Coast Guard) USCGC Morgenthau cutter to the Vietnam Coast Guard under their Excess Defense Articles (EDA) program. Gunfire At Ohio Vigil For Homicide Victim Kills 1, Hurts 5

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio (AP) — Gunfire killed one person and injured five others at an Ohio strip mall parking lot where a memorial vigil was being held to honor another person killed a year ago at the same location, authorities said. Columbus police Lt. Dan Hargus confirmed one person was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m. Saturday and five others were injured in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting in a parking lot of a Truro Township shopping plaza southeast of the city, the Columbus Dispatch reported. All of the injured were in stable condition, he said. Jacqueline Bailey, 67, who lives in an apartment building across the road from the shopping plaza, told the newspaper that someone in a westbound sport utility vehicle suddenly opened fire on the group gathered for the memorial vigil and then drove off. A vigil for a shooting victim in Columbus, Ohio , on Saturday turned into chaos when a drive-by shooting left one woman dead and five other people wounded, according to reports. The incident happened on the city’s southeast side, FOX 28 of Columbus reported . The vigil outside a Dollar General store in a shopping plaza was marking the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of a 28-year-old man, the Columbus Dispatch reported.
