Viet Nam News HCM CITY — The HCM City Museum on August 16 celebrated its 40th anniversary with an exhibition featuring the history of the South from 1698 to 1945. The exhibition, Dấu Ấn Khai Phá Miền Đất Nam Bộ Qua Hiện Vật Bảo Tàng (Marks of Land Reclamation in South Việt Nam through the Museum’s Objects) includes 137 rare or precious objects. They include maps, royal decrees, diplomas and seals under the Tây Sơn Dynasty (1778-1802) and Nguyễn Dynasty (1802-1945). On display are copies of three maps of HCM City in different time periods, including 1623-1679, 1975, and 1815. There are also dozens of royal stamps that were used on administrative documents under the Tây Sơn Dynasty and Nguyễn Dynasty. HCM City (VNA) - The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee plans to invest 8 trillion VND (360 million USD) in buying new fire-prevention and fire-fighting equipment, including robots and boats. According to the city’s fire-prevention master plan to 2025, all 24 districts in the city will have professional fire prevention and fighting units with modern equipment and devices, including robots and fire-fighting boats. Half of the funds will come from the city’s state budget, and the rest from the State budget and private sector. The plan will be divided into two phases, from 2016 to 2020 and 2021 to 2025. Poor fire-fighting equipment and incomplete water supply planning have directly impacted on fire prevention and control, said Colonel Le Tan Buu, head of HCM City’s Fire-Fighting Police. Viet Nam News HCM CITY- Nguyễn Hồ Như Tuyết Nhung of An Giang Province won the 2016 Chuông Vàng (Golden Bell) Award in the annual cải lương (reformed opera) contest organised by HCM City Television. The talented Nhung captured the hearts of the judges and audiences by singing excerpts from Bức Ngôn Đồ Đại Việt (Vietnamese Map) and Hồn Quê (Sould Of Country), two famous historical plays written by Trần Hữu Trang and Viễn Châu, at the final round last week at the HCM Television Theatre. She competed with 11 other singers to bring home the Golden Prize, garnering 43 per cent of the audience vote. Twenty-five-year-old Trịnh Thị Ngọc Huyền of Trà Vinh Province was the runner-up, while her closest competitor, 32-year-old Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Châu of HCM City, finished third.
