Martin Lewis warning to apply for £5,000 Green Homes Grant vouchers after rumours it could be axed

· February 27, 2021 ·

MARTIN Lewis is urging eligible households to apply for £5,000 Green Homes Grant vouchers amid rumours the scheme could be pulled. The Green Homes Grant initiative gives families money to spend on energy-saving measures around their home, such as insulation or a better boiler. The government says households could save more than £200 annually on energy bills thanks to the scheme. But speaking during his Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV last night, Martin said rumours are spreading that the project could close in March. The government has yet to officially make an announcement on whether these reports are true. The Green Homes Grant scheme has already been plagued with controversy, with funding to be slashed by around £1.5billion from April. What is the Green Homes Grant? THE Green Homes Grant sees the government cover at least two-thirds of the cost of certain green upgrades, up to a maximum £5,000. For example, a homeowner would pay £1,320 of a £4,000 … [Read more...] about Martin Lewis warning to apply for £5,000 Green Homes Grant vouchers after rumours it could be axed

Racing roundup: NASCAR transition almost complete

· March 1, 2021 ·

William Byron won Sunday’s NASCAR Cup race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Myatt Snider finished first in the Xfinity Series race at the same place on Saturday and this week’s Sermon, which is pretty heavy on politics (hint: F1 and Saudi Arabia), can be found way down at the bottom of this report. First, the Cup race. The transition of NASCAR drivers from a bunch of good ol’ boys to prep-school graduates was perfectly illustrated on Sunday by Byron’s drive to victory in the No. 24 car made famous by Jeff Gordon, who owns half of this entry. NASCAR used to be the world’s last major racing series where, unlike Formula One or IndyCar or all the various “ladders,” pure, unadulterated talent behind the wheel and the courage to go out there in the first place gave a driver the potential to perhaps land a competitive ride. Jeff Gordon is a perfect example. But the days are gone when guys like Alan Kulwicki or Geoff and Brett Bodine could wrench and then race their own stock car or NASCAR … [Read more...] about Racing roundup: NASCAR transition almost complete

· April 6, 2020 ·

LONDON: This year's 149th Open Championship due to be held at Royal St George's has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, the R&A announced on Monday. A statement said the decision to scrap the 2020 tournament, scheduled for July 16-19 in Kent on England's south-east coast, had been made with a "heavy heart" but was the only option. It will be the first time the Open, the oldest of golf's four majors, has not been held since 1945. The Open was last held on the Royal St George's course in 2011 when Northern Irishman Darren Clarke claimed victory. "We appreciate that this will be disappointing for a great many people around the world but this pandemic is severely affecting the UK and we have to act responsibly," Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A, said in a statement https://www.theopen.com/latest/2020/04/theopencancellation2020. "I can assure everyone that we have explored every option for playing The Open this year but it is not going to be … [Read more...] about Golf: 2020 Open Championship cancelled due to coronavirus
