TPG explores US$8 billion sale of US cable operator Astound
NEW YORK: Private equity firm TPG is exploring a sale of Astound that could value the owner of a US network of regional cable TV and internet providers at more than US$8 billion, including debt, according to people familiar with the matter. The potential sale would come as cable operators have seen their fortunes buoyed by consumers requiring more internet bandwidth, as they stay home to work and be entertained during the COVID-19 pandemic. TPG has hired Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan Chase & Co to advise on the sale process, the sources said, requesting anonymity as the matter is confidential. TPG, Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan declined to comment. RCN Telecom Services, a division of Astound, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Astound's network includes RCN, Grande Communications Networks LLC and Wave Broadband. TPG acquired RCN and Grande for US$2.25 billion in 2016 and a year later bought Wave Broadband in a US$2.37 billion deal. Former Mediacorp engineer fined for cutting cables of company vehicle over unhappiness
SINGAPORE: Unhappy that a colleague was purportedly being treated better than he was, a then-Mediacorp engineer cut the cables of a company vehicle, causing damage that cost more than S$2,000. For his act of mischief, 34-year-old Quek Peh Jia was fined S$5,000 on Tuesday (Aug 4). The court heard that Quek felt that his colleague, a 51-year-old senior engineer, was being treated better than he was in the company. He also "harboured gripes over the alleged disparity in assignment of work", said Deputy Public Prosecutor Gabriel Lim. In June last year, Quek decided to cut a cable of a nitrogen oxide sensor on a Mercedes ACTROS Prime Mover belonging to Mediacorp at Bukit Batok Transmitting Station. He later said he did this as he wanted his colleague to take the blame for the faulty cable, and also because he was discontented with the company. In August 2019, Quek's supervisor lodged a police report over cables that were cut in another vehicle, a lorry owned by Mediacorp. … [Read more...] about Former Mediacorp engineer fined for cutting cables of company vehicle over unhappiness
