“Sri Lanka has made impressive gains in ensuring access to and quality of health services for all,” said ADB Social Sector Specialist Mr. Brian Chin. “But challenges remain, including a dramatic increase in noncommunicable diseases, which are causing a surge in demand for health services and rises in costs. The ADB project will operationalize the government’s policy to strengthen the delivery of high quality primary health services, particularly reaching vulnerable groups.”During the period of the Millennium Development Goals (1990–2015), life expectancy has increased in Sri Lanka while maternal and infant mortality have fallen. Sri Lanka art troupe to perform in Vietnam
An art troupe from Sri Lanka is scheduled to perform at the Cong Nhan Theatre in Hanoi on May 5. Fourteen artists from the art troupe are going to perform traditional songs and dances of Sri Lanka such as the Naga Raksha dance featuring the image of the country’s Cobra snake demon, the Nalagana Vannama dance featuring the beauty of maidens and the Thelme dance honouring Pattini which is considered the goddess of fertility and health. New office to promote trade with Tuscany An office to promote trade and investment between Viet Nam and Italy is set to open in central Italy's Tuscany region. Viet Nam's Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Hoang Long and Stefano Giovannelli, General Director of Tuscany Economic Promotion Agency (TEPA), yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the office. The office aims to play an important role in exchanging information on trade and investment between Viet Nam and the Tuscany region. Vietnamese or Italian business people who want to find out about business opportunities and policies in each other's countries can seek help from the office. The office is scheduled to open next month and be managed by a Vietnamese officer. Goethe-Institut Hanoi to host 'Street-Front Houses' exhibition The Goethe-Institut of Hanoi will host “Nha Mat Pho” (Street-front Houses), an exhibition of the work of artist Nguyen The Son, from March 8-28. Recently, Hanoi’s residential buildings, which have long shaped the face of the city, have been changing dramatically. Instead of windows and balconies, which facilitate the communication between neighbors, tall billboards now seal the houses off from the street. This exhibition reflects an aspect of the rapid transformation of Hanoi's architecture. Using paper and silk, this exhibition features photographic installations which play with the beholder’s perception and blur the line between reality and fiction; video installations are used to reflect the rapid change Hanoi has undergone over the past several years. Coffee industry to spend $600m in bid to regain trademark Viet Nam will spend roughly US$600 million in a lawsuit that aims to regain the Buon Ma Thuot coffee trademark from foreign businesses, said deputy director of the Dak Lak Department of Science and Technology Trinh Minh Duc. The move was made after it was found that the trademark of Buon Ma Thuot coffee from the Central Highland province of Dak Lak has been registered in China for monopoly protection for 10 years while the Dak Lak coffee trademark has also been registered by a French company in more than 10 different countries since 1997. Of the total US$600 million, the Dak Lak People's Committee will contribute half of the funds while the rest will come from members of the Viet Nam Coffee Association and the Intellectual Property Department under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
