The Who will rerelease their classic 1967 album The Who Sell Out as a giant reissue complete with studio outtakes, unreleased tracks, early takes, and Pete Townshend’s original demos for the LP. The Super Deluxe edition of The Who Sell Out , due out April 23rd via UMe/Polydor, boasts 112 songs across five CDs and two 7-inch singles, including 46 unreleased tracks. The Who Sell Out placed at Number 316 on Rolling Stone ’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list . “The Who’s third record was their first concept album, a tribute to the U.K.’s offshore pirate-radio stations. The band strung the songs together with mock commercials (‘Heinz Baked Beans’) and genuine radio jingles,” we wrote of the LP. “It’s the Who’s funniest record — the sad love ballad ‘Odorono’ turns out to be an ad for deodorant. The band expanded its maximum-R&B sound with mini rock opera ‘Rael,’ giving a hint of things to come ( Tommy was two years away), and ‘I Can See for Miles’ rode Pete … [Read more...] about The Who Prep Giant ‘The Who Sell Out’ Reissue

The Big Read: After a decade of fits and starts, it’s all systems go for Singapore’s electric vehicle dream
SINGAPORE: When contractor and part-time Grab driver Koh Jie Meng started driving an electric vehicle (EV) in 2019, he had to make special trips to a flatted factory in Ang Mo Kio every two to three days to charge the Hyundai Kona Electric, which he rented. The 30-year-old, who lives in a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat in Yishun, would much prefer to slow-charge the car while it was parked for the night as some EV owners did elsewhere in their home garage. But as no such charging facilities were available at any of the car parks near him, he had to travel to the only fast-charging point in Singapore’s north back then — SP Group’s station at Techplace I — and take about an hour to recharge his EV. Sometimes, he would arrive at the spot only to find two other cars waiting in line to tap the two fast-charging pods available, setting him back by another 30 minutes or so before he could finally perform the chore and get back on the road. But such days are now behind … [Read more...] about The Big Read: After a decade of fits and starts, it’s all systems go for Singapore’s electric vehicle dream
Pokémon might be famous for its games, but it also has some great gadgets
Pokémon might be renowned for its cooperative gameplay , delightful spinoffs , and making an intimidating genre approachable , but the franchise also has a long history of creative and interesting gadgets. The series is bursting with technology. The original in-game pokédex clearly takes inspiration from early Palm Pilot-like devices, for example. And if you think about them, pokéballs are technological marvels: they somehow transform living creatures into particles that can be transported across the world (and in the TV show, the pokéballs can even shrink). So it’s not all that surprising that there have been many Pokémon -themed toys and hardware. We’ve collected just a few of the many memorable Pokémon gadgets in honor of the series’ 25th anniversary . The IRL devices range from gamified pedometers to custom video game consoles to actual pokéball replicas (though they can’t turn living things into particles just yet). There’s a lot of gear you can get if you want to … [Read more...] about Pokémon might be famous for its games, but it also has some great gadgets

28,000 charging stations for electric cars is possible – but where? Industry players weigh in
SINGAPORE: At this year’s Budget , Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat said Singapore will aim to phase out vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICE) over the next 20 years. It is part of a bigger vision under the Land Transport Master Plan 2040 to make the country’s land transport sector more environmentally sustainable. At the core of this strategy are electric vehicles (EVs). In fact, after 2030, Singapore should see no new purchases of ICE vehicles, according to Senior Minister of State for Transport Dr Janil Puthucheary at the Transport Ministry’s Committee of Supply Debate. That will be no mean feat, given Singapore has more than 900,000 of such vehicles today. To incentivise electric vehicle adoption, the Government is dangling several carrots such as the EV Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI) – essentially a rebate on Additional Registration Fees (ARF) capped at S$20,000 starting next January.
