Film screenings will begin in HCM City this weekend to prepare for the annual Golden Kite Awards ceremony organised by the Viet Nam Cinematography Association. Produced by State-owned film studios, Dam Me and Lac Loi dwell on the topics of love, family and social problems. VN photographer wins Sony Photography National Award
Ngo Thanh Minh's photograph, entitled Lighting Dream, won the Vietnam National Award at the Sony World Photography Awards. Ngo Thanh Minh's Lighting Dream. The Hue City resident's winning photograph was chosen as the single best entry in any of the awards' 10 open categories. "I am honoured that the jury appreciated my photo. This is a great opportunity for photographers around the world to learn and take up challenges in their work," Minh said. "The photo was taken on the Perfume River in Hue City when two girls were releasing the lights to pray for their families. This is a Vietnamese tradition unique to Huế City, which is followed to wish for a happy and peaceful life." Exhibition shows national award winners (09-12-2005) Medium is the message: Sound of Life by Dinh Van won a silver medal. — VNS Photo Doan Tung HA NOI — Twenty-three outstanding artworks produced during 2001-05 have been honoured by the Viet Nam Fine Arts Association and are the centrepiece of the 2005 national fine arts exhibition opening today in Ha Noi. The national fine arts prizes are presented by the Ministry of Culture and Information every five years. This year, nearly 3,000 artworks by 2,145 artists from around the country were submitted for consideration. Nguyen Quoc Huy of Ha Noi was awarded a gold medal for the lacquer painting Tan Ca (Rush Hour); Nguyen Huy Tinh of Ha Noi was honoured for the sculpture Thuong Vo (Martial Spirit); and Siu Quy of HCM City was recognised for the mixed-media painting Khat (Thirst).
