Think dragons and images of warriors, magic and fantasy come to mind. Fire breathing beasts with a strong presence, holding court and the attention of everyone. The last thing you would ever think of though, is an Asian American actress playing the role of an awe-inspiring mythical beast. Well, neither could comedian and actress Awkwafina, when she got the call from Disney, to voice Sisu, the awkward but heroic blue dragon in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon. “When I first got the call to voice Sisu, I was so mind blown. I almost didn’t believe it. I didn’t believe that this was a real call. Maybe they want to now but like, who knows if they still want me later?” said Awkwafina in an exclusive interview with Geek Culture. You know, I’ve always connected with dragons – I was born in the year of the Dragon so I just think if I was ever gonna play an animal, it’s a cool animal to play. Well, as disconnected it might have sounded to the 32-year-old actress then, the combination … [Read more...] about Awkwafina on playing a blue Disney character & being compared to Robin Williams

Teen killed in crash snuck out, pushed car out of driveway with friend
Simon Norris was staying at his friend’s home when the pair decided to sneak out and go for a drive. The 14-year-old, who his parents believe had never driven on a road before, pushed the car up the driveway with the help of his friend, also a youth. About 10 kilometres up the road the teen missed a corner on Mai Mai Valley Rd, near Reefton on the South Island’s West Coast, sending the car rolling down a bank about 8.35pm on Saturday. Simon died in the car while his friend, who suffered broken ribs, ran home to get help. Concerns over direction in fixed income yield dampen equity
Kindly Share This Story: *Investors record N248bn loss By Nkiruka Nnorom Investment analysts have said that uncertainty over the direction of yields in the fixed income (FI) market will continue to keep the domestic stock exchange in the red zone, even as the market ended the first week of March on a negative note. They, however, said that investors may take advantage of moderation in share prices to re-enter the market. Their prediction is coming on the heels of N248 billion lost by investors last week as the bears continued to rule the market, despite the positive 2020 full year earnings and dividend announcements by corporates. Salceda: Bayanihan 3 needed because Bayanihan 2 ‘did not work enough’
MANILA, Philippines — There is a need for a third Bayanihan measure because the second one “did not work enough,” Albay Rep. Joey Salceda, who chairs the House committee on ways and means, said Monday. Salceda made the remark as he pushed once again for the passage of Bayanihan 3. The House version of the measure remains pending in the House committee on economic affairs. “We need a Bayanihan 3 for the simple reason that Bayanihan 2 did not work enough, and the embedded stimulus in the 2021 budget was formed when our expectations of recovery for this year were still optimistic,” Salceda said in a statement. “We were told that credit stimulus could be leveraged five times. That did not happen. In fact, credit growth shrunk. We were told 2021 would be the start of recovery. In fact, there’s a strong chance we would only see 2019 levels of output by 2022 or 2023,” he added. Speaker Lord Allan Velasco and Marikina Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo earlier filed House Bill No. 8628 or the … [Read more...] about Salceda: Bayanihan 3 needed because Bayanihan 2 ‘did not work enough’
Senate panel seeks halt to Red-tagging with false, unverified info as basis
MANILA, Philippines—The Senate committee on defense has advised the government’s security forces against publicly linking institutions or activist groups to the communist insurgency on the basis of unproven intelligence reports or information. The committee made this and other recommendations in a report on Feb. 22 on its investigation of alleged Red-tagging of individuals and groups by the military. “The security sector should exercise caution in making public pronouncements as these carry with it a semblance of authority from the State,” the 66-page report read. “The authorities should refrain from publicly vilifying, labelling and imputing guilt by association to the communist groups, various institutions and progressive organizations based on false or unverified information,” it added. ‘Unacceptable blunder’ The committee report pointed to the military’s “recent blunder” in posting on social media a list of University of the Philippines alumnus who had supposedly joined … [Read more...] about Senate panel seeks halt to Red-tagging with false, unverified info as basis
