Oil imports from US jump 72 per cent, Iraq top supplier
New Delhi: India's crude oil imports from the US have jumped by over 72 per cent in the first five months of the current fiscal as the country looks to diversify oil purchases beyond its traditional suppliers in the Middle East, official data showed. According to data sourced from the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics, the US supplied about 4.5 million tonnes of crude oil during April to August 2019 as compared to 2.6 million tonnes oil sourced from that country in the same period a year back. Iraq continues to be India's top crude oil supplier, meeting close to one-fourth of the country's oil needs. Iraq sold 21.24 million tonnes of crude oil to India during April to August, almost 12 per cent more than 18.99 million tonnes it had supplied in the same period of the previous fiscal. India provisionally imported 91.24 million tonnes of crude oil in April-August 2019, down from 93.91 million tonnes a year back. Oil ministry asks RIL to assess Cauvery basin discovery
NEW DELHI: The government has given Reliance Industries the go-ahead to appraise its discovery in the Cauvery basin, enabling the company and its partner BP to prepare a field development plan and extend its deep-water portfolio beyond the controversial D6 block, government and industry sources said.oil and 3 trillion cubic feet of gas, but experts say the true picture would emerge only after the block is appraised.RIL had announced the find in the CYPR-D6 block on April 21 last year as "a rich gas and condensate discovery". London’s Hardy Oil gets extension on exploration in Cauvery basin block
NEW DELHI: London-listed Hardy Oil & Gas plc today said it has won an arbitration proceeding to get an extension on its exploration licence in a Cauvery basin block. Hardy said the award of the extension would allow it to carry out appraisal activities on the block where it had made a gas discovery, named Ganesha, for a further three years from the date on which the block is restored. "The company has been successful in obtaining the extension of the CY-OS/2 licence," Hardy said in a statement. The Ganesha discovery was made in 2007, with the Ganesha-1 well flow testing at a rate of 10.7 million cubic feet per day, and is estimated to hold contingent resources of about 130 billion cubic feet. Work on the block had halted as Hardy carried out a formal dispute resolution process to extend the expiry date of the licence. Parliamentary panel asks Oil Ministry to explain ‘zero’ gas output from KG D6
NEW DELHI: A Parliamentary panel has asked the oil ministry to explain "in lucid terms", zero gas production from KG D6, noting that the estimated 80 mmscmd output from the gas block led to setting up of gas-based power plants which are stranded now due to no fuel supply. "The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas should come out with the reasons, in the lucid terms, for zero production of gas from KG D6 as the estimated production of 80 mmscmd that was envisaged earlier and the steps taken by the Government against those who are responsible for this gross miscalculation about the production of gas from KG D6 which has put the reliability of the Ministry at stake," said the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy in its 42nd report on /Non-Performing Assets in Gas based Power Plants.
