The League dating app—which filters users to make sure they’re in the right league—has decided to mess around with video speed dating. Since the League launched in 2015, it has garnered the reputation as the dating app for social status-focused snobs. “While your mother may call you picky, we call you self-aware,” the app’s site explains. “We’ll do the vetting so you can do the petting.” Advertisement Now the app is launching a feature that caters to people who are too busy hustling and social climbing to go on actual physical dates. Starting on December 1, some League users will be able to try League Live. The feature automatically connects pairs of participating users, based on their mutual preferences, for two-minute video-chatting dates. According to the Verge, each person gets three of these dates back-to-back, with each session prompted by an ice-breaker. If both users like each other then the app will connect them and … [Read more...] about Dating App The League Will Start Making Its Users Face-Time Each Other
These days there isn’t much we can all agree on, but here’s a perennial truth: online dating isn’t easy. If you’re looking for love and haven’t found any luck on Tinder or similar platforms, the dating app Hinge is testing a new service for the online dater who thinks sex is cool but way too time-consuming. It’s called Audrey. Business Insider reports the service costs a steep $99 a month, though Hinge was not able to confirm that figure with Gizmodo. Hinge describes Audrey as “a powerful personal assistant that allows you to spend less time on the app and more time on great dates.” While the company has yet to specify whether Audrey is a bot, it will “reach out, introduce you, and schedule a date if the feeling is mutual.” If the feeling isn’t mutual, Audrey will also provide you with “data and feedback along the way to help you find that perfect match.” Advertisement For those unfamiliar with the … [Read more...] about Dating App Creates Service for People Who Are Too Lazy to Make Dates
In a recent post “Why Authenticity is the Best Dating Strategy” I reviewed research conducted by myself and my colleagues on why “Being Yourself” is the best dating strategy for those looking to have successful long-term romantic relationships. Authentic individuals that adopt such a dating strategy tend to attract individuals like themselves, resulting in what evolutionary psychologists call “assortative mating” (birds of a feather flock together). In contrast to authenticity, individuals that score high on The Dark Triad of narcissism, Machiavellian intelligence, and psychopathy tend to play hard to get and suffer poor long-term relational outcomes. Nevertheless, in the short-term playing hard … [Read more...] about Online Dating: Are You Attracting the Right Type?
Updated, July 21, @ 15:43 BST (10:43 EDT): In a move that is best described as a token gesture of apology, Avid Life Media is now allowing Ashley Madison users to "full delete" their data for free, waiving the usual £15/$20 fee. Unfortunately, deleting your data from the Ashley Madison database now won't help you if the Impact Team had already obtained your details during yesterday's breach. Avid Life Media still isn't commenting on the extent of the hack, and the hackers haven't yet released any more of their purported cache of data. Updated, July 21 @ 11:18 BST (06:18 EDT): Avid Life Media, after an understandably frantic day yesterday, has pushed out a couple of statements that are meant to suggest that the database breach is now under control. As far as we're aware, the Impact Team hasn't yet released any more information, despite the fact that Ashley Madison and Established Men are still online. The first statement from Avid Life Media acknowledged … [Read more...] about Ashley Madison, an online dating website for cheaters, gets hacked [Updated]
