Karlsson’s 1st goal of season helps Sharks beat Avs 6-2

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Erik Karlsson scored for the first time this season during a four-goal third period that helped the San Jose Sharks roll past the Colorado Avalanche 6-2 on Monday night. “It seems like he’s got a good reset. He’s doing those things with the puck we’re used to seeing him doing,” San Jose coach Bob Boughner said. “That’s the Erik we’re used to seeing.” Rudolfs Balcers broke a tie early in the third, John Leonard scored on a breakaway and Evander Kane added an empty-netter as the Sharks pulled away to beat the Avalanche for the first time in three tries this season. Timo Meier assisted on the first three goals in the third. Radim Simek and Kevin Labanc also scored for San Jose, and Martin Jones made 33 saves. Samuel Girard and Gabriel Landeskog scored for the Avalanche. Malaysia reports 235 new COVID-19 cases, death toll rises to 23

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia on Thursday (Mar 26) reported 235 new COVID-19 cases in its biggest daily jump, taking the national total to 2,031 - the highest in Southeast Asia. The health ministry also said the country's death toll increased to 23, as of 5pm on Thursday. Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said based on initial investigations, 60 of the new positive cases were linked to the cluster associated with a religious gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque. “The remaining 175 cases were still being investigated and are probably linked to other clusters,” he added. The tabligh (religious) event, which took place from Feb 27 to Mar 1, was attended by 16,000 people. It has also led to infections in neighbouring countries including Brunei , Singapore and Cambodia . Nelson College ends 12-year drought to win UC Championship rugby competition

Nelson College have ended Christchurch Boys' High School's stranglehold to win the UC Championship for the first time since 2007. Nelson recovered from a slow start to beat the three-time defending champions 35-31 in muddy conditions on Saturday. Pfizer, Sinovac deliveries to PH face more delays

MOCK VACCINATION About a hundred elderly people take part in a dry run of COVID-19 vaccination at Legarda Elementary School in Manila on Thursday. The practice is held in preparation for the rollout of Pfizer and Sinovac vaccines expected to arrive this month, but the deliveries will be delayed due to paperwork for indemnification required by the World Health Organization-led vaccine pool for Pfizer and by China’s requirement of emergency use authorization for Sinovac. —RICHARD A.
