The German Film Festival promises to thrill audiences with a versatile programme in four large cities in the country. A selection of the newest and most popular films from Germany will be shown in Hanoi, Da Nang, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City. In its sixth year, the festival will showcase the remarkable dynamism and creativity of the German film industry, with the genres of the films ranging from thriller to drama and comedy. There will be more than 30 film screenings in German language, with Vietnamese and English subtitles or voice-overs. The films have been particularly successful in cinemas around the world as well as at the Berlin Film Festival and other festivals. The German films of 2015 capture historical as well as current topics as they deal with the power of digital media and with traditions and cultural distinctions. The short films will be presented by Maike Mia Höhne, curator of the Berlinale Shorts. Among the 11 films from 13 countries is “Another City” by Pham Ngoc Lan, who gained filmmaking skills in DocLab at the Goethe-Institut Hanoi. Love interest: Vietnamese-American actor Tran Bao Son performs in Quyen, a new feature film directed by Golden Kite winner Nguyen Phan Quang Binh. — Photo vnexpress.net HCM CITY (VNS) — Independent film director Nguyen Phan Quang Binh of HCM City began filming Quyen last week in Da Lat city. The film is based on a novel written by the Vietnamese-German Nguyen Van Tho, who won second prize at the 2006-09 Novel Writing Contest of the Viet Nam Writers' Association. Released by the Writers' Association Publishing House in 2009, the novel is about the challenges he faced after 20 years of living abroad. Binh's film depicts the tragic love story between Quyen (played by Vu Ngoc Anh), a married woman and Hung (played by Vietnamese-American actor Tran Bao Son) who both lived in Germany as refugees.
