HCM City runs summer camps for children A programme titled "Proud of children in HCM City" that ended last week featured a wide range of entertainment, sports, arts, music, health care and communications for children and teenagers from across the city. Teenagers and children who are respectively members of the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union and Union of Vietnamese Children were sent to camps in Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta provinces of Long An, Bến Tre, Trà Vinh, and Vĩnh Long, the northern provinces of Tuyên Quang and Cao Bằng and Hà Nội. Many activities were held to improve their awareness of environmental protection, including tree planting at schools, parks and historical relics as well as forest camps. Contest invites entries for Ha Long Bay souvenirs The Ha Long Bay Management Board has launched a contest to mark the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO's recognition of the Ha Long Bay as a World Natural Heritage site. That recognition was granted on December 17, 1994. The contest seeks souvenir items which not only have good design, but also represent the specific identity as well as beauty of the spot. The contest's organisers said they would welcome all materials that will be used to make the souvenir entries, but the fact is that those made with environment friendly or locally available materials would be preferred. The entries can be sent by September 10 and the result will be announced on October 14. There are two VND15-million or US$700 first prizes, two VND10-million or $470 second prizes, and two VND5-million or $240 third prizes. British dance ensemble to brighten Vietnam stages Two stunning contemporary dance productions “Without Stars” and “There We Have Been” inspired by Haruki Murakami’s novel Norwegian Wood are set to light up Vietnam stages this October. James Cousins and his dancers will hit the Youth Theatre in Hanoi for a one-night-only show on October 22 and the IDECAF stage in Ho Chi Minh City on October 25-25. A graduate of the London Contemporary Dance School, James Cousins founded his dance company in 2012 along with creative producer Francesca Moseley. Russian festival on its way The Russian Cultural Days 2013 will be held from November 11-17 in Ha Noi, HCM City and Binh Duong Province by the culture ministries of Viet Nam and Russia. Activities consist of art performances, photo exhibitions and Russian Film Days which will screen Russian contemporary feature movies such as My Dad is Baryshnikov, I'll be Around, My Boyfriend is an Angel and White Tiger. As scheduled, a splendid art performance will open the event which takes place on November 12 at the Ha Noi Opera House. The art performance will also be organised at HCM City's Municipal Theatre on November 15 and at the Binh Duong Cultural Centre the following day.
