The Favourite, Yorgos Lanthimos’s scabrous depiction of the power struggle surrounding Queen Anne in the early 18th century, has swept the board at this year’s European Film Awards. As well as best film, best director and best European comedy, the UK-Irish-US coproduction also won best actress for Olivia Colman to add to her Oscar for the film. Neither Colman nor Lanthimos were present to pick up their awards in Berlin, where this year’s ceremony was held. It was left to the veteran film-maker Werner Herzog, accepting a lifetime achievement award, to fly a flag for European values; rather strangely for an event, in its 32nd edition in 2019, that has been highly vocal in recent years in its opposition to the tide of rising populism and nationalism on the continent. “Europe is a peace project that is practised and that is functioning,” Herzog told the audience, in virtually the only grand political statement of the evening. “It is the biggest peace … [Read more...] about The Favourite triumphs at European Film Awards in Berlin

Wonder Woman Producer Details How The Film Changed Over Time
By JK Schmidt - September 5, 2017 04:44 pm EDT Share 0 Comments 0 Wonder Woman has finally received her own feature film more than 75 years after the character debuted in the pages of All Star Comics #8, completing a massive journey in the character’s long-running history. Though the story recounts the hero’s origins before debuting in last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the process of making the film was challenging for the people behind the camera. Though Patty Jenkins always had a version of this particular story in mind, producers of the film were debating the best plot of the film before she became attached to the project. Warner Bros. producer Charles Roven, who has had a hand in almost every DC Comics project since Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, spoke with Collider about the scripting phase for Wonder Woman and the how the film changed before it finally became the version playing in theaters. “Really early … [Read more...] about Wonder Woman Producer Details How The Film Changed Over Time

Blue is the Warmest Colour actors say filming lesbian love story was ‘horrible’
The stars of Palme d'Or-winning drama Blue is the Warmest Colour have said that making director Abdellatif Kechiche's film was "horrible" , and that they are unlikely to work with him again. Adèle Exarchopoulos, 19, and 28-year-old Léa Seydoux said the Franco-Tunisian film-maker ranted and raved at them as he sought to achieve optimum realism during the production. The 10-minute love scene at the centre of the film took a gruelling 10 days to shoot, they revealed, while a fight scene was the result of a continuous one-hour take during which Kechiche refused to allow his stars to simulate blows. "You can see that we were really suffering," said Exarchopoulos in an interview with the Daily Beast website at the Telluride festival in the US, where the film is set to premiere. "With the fight scene, it was horrible. She was hitting me so many times, and [Kechiche] was screaming: 'Hit her! Hit her again!'" Seydoux added: "In America, we'd all be in jail. [Kechiche] shot with … [Read more...] about Blue is the Warmest Colour actors say filming lesbian love story was ‘horrible’
