With 60 weekly flights connecting Vietnam’s third largest city with major Thai destinations, the number of Thai arrivals to Da Nang quadrupled year-on-year in the first seven months of this year to almost 107,000. Thais accounted for 6 percent of Da Nang's total foreign arrivals, becoming the third largest group after South Koreans (1 million, making up 57 percent) and Chinese (500,000 or 26 percent), according to the city’s tourism department. Domestic and foreign carriers, betting on this trend, have been racing to launch more flights. Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet Air last year launched flights from Da Nang to Bangkok. In April Malaysian-owned budget airline Thai AirAsia began a daily service from Chiang Mai to Da Nang. Da Nang is a major economy-tourism hub that attracts many foreign visitors, including Thai tourists, all year round, Santisuk Khlongchaiya, head of Thai AirAsia’s commercial operations, said. Da Nang to keep businesses at bay from urban planning
Starting next year, the city will formulate plans on its own and call for investment later, the city's party leader Truong Quang Nghia said at a Tuesday meeting with almost 1,000 city residents. He said reviewing the city's general urban plans has been a key task undertaken by the municipal administration for the past two years. Earlier this year, the city had hired Singaporean consortium Sakae Corporate Advisory-Surbana Jurong as consultants to make adjustments to its master plans from now until 2030 and with a vision until 2045. Based on advice from the two firms, Da Nang, considered the third major city in Vietnam after capital Hanoi and southern metropolis Ho Chi Minh City, will make development plans on its own. It will invite businesses to invest in projects that have already been designed instead of "letting investors tell the city to do this and that and the city revising its plans following their proposals as has been done before," said Nghia. "Every project will be … [Read more...] about Da Nang to keep businesses at bay from urban planning
Da Nang revisits railway station relocation plan after 15 years
The central city first brought out the plan to relocate the Da Nang Railway Station westward to Lien Chieu District from the central district of Thanh Khe in 2004. After many discussions, the plan fell through. The long delay and uncertainty has upset a lot of residents. "This delay isn't good for the people here. They can't build houses. They can't give their land to their children. We need a concrete solution from the city," resident Huynh Su said at a meeting with Da Nang’s Party chief Truong Quang Nghia on Tuesday. Nghia said the relocation had been stalled due to the lack of funding. But some investors have expressed interest in the project recently. Therefore, the city plans to revive it and collaborate with the Ministry of Transport to select a new location for the station in 2020. He said the city now wants to relocate the station to a different place than Lien Chieu because it was no longer a rural district and the station should be at a fair distance from the city … [Read more...] about Da Nang revisits railway station relocation plan after 15 years
