Bản in : Skilled labour shortage for software companies
Da Nang (VNA) – A shortage of high-quality labourers has caused headaches for a range of software companies in central Da Nang City that wanted to do business with foreign countries. Statistics from the city Software Association showed that only 600 of 3,000 IT students meet the requirements of local software companies after graduating last year. In the first six months of this year, there are up to 1,600 job vacancies related to the IT sector, including programmers, application developers and software managers, from more than 100 software companies in the city, the association said. However, the companies failed to recruit high-quality labourers as expected. Vy Van Viet, Director of iViettech Education Centre, based in Da Nang, said an engineer working in the software sector had to know how to create an application. But in schools, students were often taught about theory rather than actually creating or developing an application. They were also lacking English and other soft … [Read more...] about Bản in : Skilled labour shortage for software companies
Vietnam sees bright prospects for labour exports in 2015
The number of guest workers working abroad is predicted to increase in 2015, especially as an ASEAN Economic Community is established within the year, said Tong Hai Nam, Deputy Head of the Overseas Labour Management Department (OLMD). The Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MOLISA) is launching a project to support the conveyance of Vietnamese labourers to foreign markets in accordance with national agreements and labourer supply contracts between domestic companies with foreign partners, Nam revealed. According to MoLISA Deputy Minister Pham Minh Huan, the ministry will continue to seek out new markets with good working conditions and high wages, while simultaneously maintaining traditional markets in 2015. Emphasis will be also placed on intensifying training for qualified labourer sources, as well as promoting the signing of skilled-labourer contracts, Huan said. Vietnam sent a record-high 105,840 guest workers abroad in 2014, 110 percent of the year's target, … [Read more...] about Vietnam sees bright prospects for labour exports in 2015
Manufacturing sector struggles to overcome skills gap
According to Molisa’s Employment Department, the Make in Vietnam initiative is meant to help create a more solid foundation for the country’s economy by investing heavily in the high-end manufacturing sector, but it is running up against the limited skills of the workforce. In 2016, says the Department, only 166,000 students graduated from a full-time accredited vocational college while another 1.7 million completed short 3-month skills training programs. The short training essentially makes the graduates unemployable in today’s workforce and does little to nothing to help Vietnam remedy its skills crunch, says the Department. The Department adds that the lack of participation in comprehensive specialized courses mean companies operating in Vietnam must underwrite the cost of training their own people from scratch. Department personnel are quick to point out and emphasize that Vietnam does not have a labour shortage problem— it has a monumental skilled labour … [Read more...] about Manufacturing sector struggles to overcome skills gap

In June 2014, the MoLISA embarked on the project by inviting ministries, agencies and parties concerned to outline action plans, she said, adding that it also submitted a vocational training improvement scheme to the government. Apart from bringing in 20 sets of curricula from advanced countries and providing training for teachers, the ministry has partnered with Australia to train and grant certifications to trainees. Bản in : Firms fail to meet export orders due to labour shortage
Enterprises in HCM City's export processing and industrial zones are struggling to complete increasing orders because they are short of workers. Textile, footwear, electronic assembly and seafood processing establishments typically receive more orders towards the end of the year. Nguyen Thanh Tung, director of the Job Opportunity Centre under the HCM City Export Processing Zones Authority (HEPZA), said enterprises needed 49,000 workers from now until the end of the year, but the centre can only meet 70 percent of this demand. Around 300 enterprises in textile, footwear and electronic assembly are facing severe labour shortages. The Tan Thuan export processing zone alone needs 10,000 workers badly. Besides non-skilled labour, enterprises are also having difficulties in finding suitable candidates for middle management positions, from commercial to production ones. Nhandan Newspaper – Expert proposes key pillars for development of labour force
Regarding the major impacts of the 4th Industrial Revolution, Dr. Thuc said that economies should transform their growth models to an intensive model based on traditional factors of cheap labour, land and resources to those relying on technologies, high-quality human resources and innovation. That is the motivating factor that pushes countries in a direction to effectively deal with arising challenges. If competition among nations in the previous Industrial Revolutions was formerly down to low costs (cheap resources and labour), the 4.0 version relates to the confronting competition (high-quality human resources). In vocational training, the 4th Industrial Revolution has the ability to break the traditional way of training, requiring changes in thinking to approaches to renovate objectives and content in forming the vocational school system and applying flexible training methods to provide human resources with high-quality knowledge and skills. Dr. Thuc revealed that the current … [Read more...] about Nhandan Newspaper – Expert proposes key pillars for development of labour force
